It's better to charge and an IPod with an IPod electrical to see if its working rather then using the USB. If you have one let it charge for 3 hrs.

font.f1 { font: 12px Helvetic Thanks for asking your question with Fixya Support. I will be glad to assist you.

Anytime your iPod's mechanical functionality is not where it should be, the easiest way to restore the device's button operations, is to either perform a restore

Or attempt to reset your iPod:
• Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
• Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. If it does not work the first time, you may have to repeat this process.

To acquire more troubleshooting options to regain operational capacity of your iPod Classic,
I have included the link from Apple for your model of iPod.

It wont turn on. i have tried to reset it but all that appears is an apple then it ticks and the screen turns white and it directs me to the apple website then turns off

Welcome to Fixya

Looks like the software just hanged-up on you. Try to reset the Ipod by following the procedures below.

1st option:
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until the Apple logo appears).
You may need to repeat the reset several times.
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.

2nd option (Disk Mode):
Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2 hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).
Note: Do not disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

My apple ipod classic froze half way through a song welst i connected it to a computer now its froze on the song and it wont charge

Press both the center button and menu until the circular spinning icon shows that the thing is rebooting.  Also, try holding play for 5-10 seconds to shut the thing off.  Then hold play for 5-10 seconds to turn it back on.

My ipod classic 80GB doesn't work when I power it on, it just shows the monogram of Apple and stop. Can anyone here fix my problem?

Press Menu and select (middle button) at the same time for about 6 seconds. This should reset the system and soon reboot. This won't really affect your songs or applications. I've done it a few times and never "lost" anything.

Ipod classic 80gb won't open and charge

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
