I had the same problem and changed the battery on Monday. Works fine. There are just four small screws to remove.

Replacement battery can be found here:
http://newmp3technology.com/404-battery.htm. I used them and can confirm that the battery comes with the right connector for the Archos 404.

Took 10 minutes to replace it.

Good luck.

Archos not charging

You don't say how old the device/battery is. Does it fail right out of the box new? This behavior can be common with an older failing battery. If this occurs in a new device then it is faulty and needs be sent back on warranty.

Archos 404 camcorder

sound like you may need a new battery. look on the archos FAQ page to see if that is what it is. if so you can do this two ways you can fit the battery your self, you can buy the battery from newmp3technology.com or type archos.co.uk. or you can send it to the archos repair by calling 0870 609 1693 this will put you to the archos uk repair team

Archos 404

Your battery may be dead. This happens sometimes when the charge is allowed to completely drain. The dialectric (or something) in the battery doesn't work when there is no charge at all in it.

You may need to change the battery. Check to see if the case appears to be loose at the edges (or there is a gap). This may mean that the battery has swollen and you should therefore change it.
