You need a live input source to the port that the TV is set to, or turn on the tv and switch input to a live input source, anything else and the tv shifts to standby.

Tv wont turn on

Hello Charliebigwh, hi technically your monitor's power supply has a problem, this is either your switching regulator does not work or there is a short in that section, If you want to do it your self, need to replace all large value, and or high voltage capacitors(especially the capacitors with its top is bubbly), need also to replace the switching IC, and power transistor.

Have it checked by a technician if you cannot do the work.

I have a 19'' baird tv that is staying on standby.

your h.o.t. horiz. output transistor is more than likely shorted and this is how a switching power supply protects itself it does a self test and if parameters and current/voltage aren't correct this is what happens

The TV switches it self off

Sorry to here about your TV problems but it is almost imposable to help someone with technical problems if they don't list a product, model or P/N number.
Either-way, I would try moving the unit in an area where it has more breathing space if poss-able.
Also, is the unit in a air conditioned area or in a Damp basement or Florida room ?
I would also, go on line and see if Panasonic has any call backs on this unit.
This may be a feature which can be reset without to much trouble.
Next time please list the size & model #.

New Sharp Aquos LC37X20E. After 30 mins turns itself off to standby and comes back on after 2-5mins (even though the automatic return to stanby has been set to "disable"). Eventually after...

According to Sharp it is a software problem. Engineer came, installed software update ,10 minute job.....TV worked fine for 1/2 day unfortunately: Then images turned black and white in all channels TV turned itself off, and stanby and OPC buttons started flashing. When TV came back on its own 10 mins later , screen had 2 large square staines superimposed in image (as if it was a burnt screen)...Engineer will be back next week...all quite sad really for a new TV.....will keep u posted
