If the card reader is built-in on your laptop then - You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windowsdrivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download thedrivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.htmlhttp://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/cs/support.html
Hp's website should have the drivers you need. Just go to the support and download's page and type in the laptops model and it should then ask you for the type of OS you are using. And bingo a list of all the drivers.
Best of luck...

Yes of course you can upgrade your Vista PC to Windows 7.
The only thing you have to do is back all your wanted files like movies, pics, docs etc to slave or storage drive. Then you can proceed to install Windows 7. Just make sure you install over the Vista partition if you are going to perform a clean install.
If you just want to upgrade and keep your settings just pop the disc in while you are using the Vista machine.
Initially you have to download sata driver for the model of your laptop from the manufacture website. After downloading driver you have use the nlite software to create xp cd boo table with sata driver. you can get details regarding the creation of bootable xp with sata driver from the following link http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-Windows-XP-On-SATA-Without-a-Floppy-F6-47807.shtml
The Compaq Presario 5000 is not powerful enough to run Vista so XP is your best bet. I assume you have the standard 512MB RAM which will be fine for XP Once you outgrow that you'll need to go for more powerful hardware. By that time the new Windows 7 should have been officially released.
