Your scope has 5 adjustments:
1. Eye piece focus - used to focus on the reticle.
2. windage adjustment - should be on the R side of the scope, adjusts lateral impact point.
3. Vertical adjustment - the top turret. Adjusts vertical point of impact.
4. Power ring - adjusts the magnification of the scope.
5. AO ring - Parralax adjustment - used to focus the scope at specific distances. Most markings are not exact, you should set it at the range you are shooting and fine tune focus when you look through the scope.
The battery on lighted reticle scopes is located underneath a screw off cap on the rheostat switch usually on the ocular lens housing. Hold the base of the switch with one hand and unscrew the cap with a coin. Replace the battery with a CR2032 button type battery (this is the most common battery size for these)

Contact the manufacturer of your particular rifle scope. Most companies have a very good warranty on their products. Sounds like something's broken.

My recommendation is that you send the scope back to Nikon and have their factory repair it. It is unwise to try and take the scope apart yourself, I won't even do it and I am a gunsmith.
Nikon contact info from their website:
Service and Repair Support 8AM - 2AM (Eastern) 7 days a week 1-800-Nikon-SV 1-800-645-6678 Have your Service Order number (begins with a 4) or product serial number (if applicable).
I'm not sure which model you have but the most common battery location is under the reticle switch on the ocular lens housing, you have to hold the base of the switch with one hand and turn off the cover with a coin in the other hand. The most common battery for these scopes is a CR2032 button style battery.
