I have a fairly old 1121 but cannot find any levers to go into freewheel. I have seen a modern one and can see them in that. Can you help?

To engage or disengage the drive motors: 1. Locate the manual freewheel levers at the front of the chair. See figure 5. 2. Push the levers down to engage the drive motors (drive mode). See figure 8. 3. Pull the levers upward to disengage the drive motors (freewheel mode). See figure 9.
If a lever is difficult to move in either direction, rock your power chair back and forth slightly. The lever should then move to the desired position Manual link below.

Hi remove the key for a short while make sure freewheel lever is in drive & replace key & try it out. If this doesn't help take key out put freewheel lever In freewheel then put it in drive put key back & try again good luck

For the wire to come all the way out lever on top of the trans must be broken. I've seen a few. Jack rear of mower up, remove rear right wheel and find remnants of lever. With pliers turn this all the way forward, mower will now go. But to fit new lever trans will have to be removed. Dont forget the axle key.

There a several solutions to this problem and all involve removing the seat and rear cover of the drivetrain. The brake and lever arm of the brake is located on the end of the black motor. Moving the brake lever up and down places the motor in freewheel or locks the motor/brake. There is a connecting rod from the brake lever to a ball that can be pulled up or down where it exits the back cover.
The connecting rod and brake lever may be bent making it difficult to work. Gently bend it back into alignment if you can. Be careful not to damage the brake and brake lever. The rod is easily reshaped. There is also a chance that the mechanism is binding and rusted or loose. You should be able to work the rod easily. See if you can move the lever right at the brake.
The more likely culprit is an overheated seized brake with the only solution replacing the brake. I have also seen the hexagon shaped nut which is secured by 2 set screws onto the motor shaft inside the brake housing come off. The set screws get loose and the nut gets lodged in the brake. Both of these solutions requires removing the brake with some allen wrenches after noting its position on the motor shaft. Hope this helps.

I believe the older versions had a release lever and cable system at the rear center. This was a 2 step, 2 handed on your knees process to release the lock on lever with your left hand and pull out and turn the lever with your right hand. This pulled on the cables to both motors to disengage the freewheel levers

make sure your free wheel levers are in the correct position

Hi. I have had a couple of similar faults on other brands. It is normally caused by a split brake disk in the freewheel unit. You will probably have to have a new brake unit fitted to fix it.
If you are using the machine as it is, and need to stop quickly, a bit of reverse on the speed lever will help.

you will see how the freewheel lever is mounted under normally a rubber cover on the side of the electric motor ,

Further to my above answer,
check all connector blocks and make sure they are clean and not corroded if they are clean with emery paper or replace as needed. it might also be the motor brushes that are not making contact properly, these are located on the sides of the motor under a small black cover about the size of a UK 1p these unscrew and the brushes pull out, there is a spring attached that pushes the brush against the motor, take them out (one on ether side of each motor 2 in total to each motor) and clean with alcohol or similar, be careful not to damage them, as they are out use a Hoover to suck out any dust particles out of the motor housings, just put the tube over the holes you removed the brushes from and suck. then back to the brushes, when they are clean and dry replace them back in to the slot you removed them from, do not force, they should slide back with ease you need to place the spring and the gold cap back in and hold it there as you place the cover back and tighten up the covers, you will need to turn the spring cap around until it slot in. see picture
