SOURCE: Seagate ST3500630AS SATA 500 GB hard Drive

You will have to send it to a data recovery company in order to retrive the data sounds like the circuit board failed therefore the drive is not receiving power.Usually if this board is good you would hear the drive spin up.
Good luck

ry connecting the external hard drive to another computer to recover/backup your data.
When you have such a large capacity hard drive, it pays to have a second large capacity hard drive to backup your data in the event of the other hard drive dying.Hard drives do fail especially if you accidently drop it.

If you dropped the drive, you can send it to http://techrxgb.com and they can try to "un stick" the damage on the drive. It certainly will cost you a few dollars, but it's possible your data is okay.

Hi, Have you tried it on another PC? Try it on another PC and see if is picked up on that one. If it runs on another PC, then you may have a driver problem with your USB ports, so these may need to be reinstalled.
Hope this helps.

My 500GB hard drive isn't working anymore

There have been issues with the western digital Mybook on the enclosure itself as the connector usually fails. The actual harddisk, however, is not damaged so you just needed to take that out and mount it to your computer or put it in another USB hard disk enclosure.

Hard drive not recognized

is damaged my friend. Hard drives are very, very delicate pieces of equipment. The disk is paper thin and any sudden jarring, especially dropping it creates a warp in the drive. Unplug it to prevent further damage. Don't worry in many cases you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

Simpletech 500 GB external hard drive - unresponsive

If you really can not get it to work anymore, you could try opening it up and connecting the hdd directly on a IDE/SATA port in your computer. This will only work if you have a desktop, for a laptop you would need all kinds of converters.
