When I boot up my computer, everything seems to load just fine but I can't see the screen. If I tilt it up to the light I can see a little of it. Is this a common problem? Please tell me there is an easy fix. I think it's three years old.
It would seem that your backlight is not turning on.
First check to see if the switch that detects that the lid closed is working. I am not sure where it is on this model, but all notebooks have one. If it gets stuck, the backlight stays off.
If it is not the switch, it may be the flourescent backlight
tubes or the inverter, It's not an easy fix, but you can check back here.
I have the same problem - can see the open desktop when I hold a lamp up to the screen. Also when I flick the lid-switch the screen flashes with light on about 1/2 of the screen, but dimly, then goes dark again. How can I determine if it's the inverter or the fluo..backlight? You should try to boot in safe mode without the card removed..If this got on after an update it is possible (almost sure) it messed up with your graphic card driver and now it needs to be reinstalled > To do so ..try to boot in safe mode...To do that press the key indicated on screen for boot menu and choose safe mode ...usually it is f8 key or f12 ..depend on the model .If it seams not to be able to find the safe mode boot ..try to stop the computer by unplugging it ..This will force it to stop improper way ..and will show the screen for safe mode and other ways to boot-up .select the first safe mode ..and let it start ..This mode will not load any drivers and work just with the minimum needed for to start .Go to control panel ...remove programs ..and remove the graphic card driver from the list ..after that if you have the disk insert it and run the driver again in original ..If you do not have it look for it on the manufacturer's site ..and download it .. If you need help with the driver ..let me know exact model of the computer ..and if it is not an on board card I need to know the exact model of the video card ..
I would try to start it up in safe mode. This can tell you whether it's a display (physical) issue, or a driver (software) issue. You can do this by hitting the F8 button as soon as you start the computer and it brings up a prompt. At the Advanced system prompt, choose "Safe Mode with Networking" and see if it works then. If it does, I would suggest you undo an changes in the drivers that you made before.
The back light is the whole of the screen, the screen is illuminated by a CCFL lamp (fluro tube) on the bottom of the screen. A inverter supplies high voltage to this CCFL lamp. If
your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the
problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a
faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions
to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen
1) test it to an external source like a tv, or external monitor through the vga ports, svideo ports. If promblem is solved, and everything seems to be going normal, then your screen is history, bad backlighting and needs screen replacement. 2) Bootup screens seems to work fine, ( like it has backlighting and light all work fine and normal) but when it turns over to loading your o/s and it get dark even with a external monitor, then it's a driver issue or your vga chipset is bad and you will need to replace your motherboard, ( in this case it is best to buy a new laptop). 3) Bios error issue, bios has become currupt somehow, you can try loading default value given in the exit tab in your bios menu. Load and save and exit. See if it works, if not your VGA chipset is screw, and motherboard will need to be replaced to fix this issue.
Hi, No the screen is fine the back light is not working you have replace the back light of the screen to resolve the issue. But before that please try the FN+F6 or F7 keys to control the brightness.
If you can see everything when you shine a light on it, it's most likely a 'backlight' going bad. These are somewhat easily repaired, but can be expensive. Good luck!
when the computer boots does the screen light up? if it does the first thing you need to try is when you turn the computer on is to option boot. That is done by holding the option key while turning the computer on. after it boots you will see the the hard drive listed on the screen it will be a icon, if there you should be able to boot up. If the computer does not boot and your hard drive is still listed you most likely have a logic board aka mother board issue.
