I have 2 CY199D monitors. About a month ago unit 1 would not come on and the blue power lamp flashed from off then amber then blue in some sequence. Pressing the power button has not effect, won't go on or off. The screen is completely dark with no sign of life. I called for support but I-Inc , now called Hanspree (or something like that) said they though the board was probably defective and the part is 1/3 of the unit cost. It was 1 month out of guarantee. They said that there is nothing that can be done to reset the unit without the display up.
OK a bad unit. Today unit 2, which is less than 2 years old and also out of guarantee, did the same thing. I turned the monitor off because I have been away and when I turned the system on I forgot to turn on the monitor. The computer was up when I turned on the monitor but the display did not light up and now the power button no longer functions and the lamp does the same thing. I tried disconnecting the power for a while but to no avail.
I was not present when the first monitor quit but I suspect that the sequence was the same.
Anyone have any suggestions besides throwing the monitors away and staying away fron I-Inc?
The problem is the program for the graphics card is stored on a 16K serial eeprom which is used as a rom this can get corrupted which causes the problems you are experiancing.
I have repaired three of these monitors by re-flashing the eeprom with a program cloned from a working monitor all worked fine after refashing.
Now the bad news as the eeprom is used as a rom it is write protected on the board so the only way to program it is to remove it flash it with a valid program and then replace it easy if you are a surface mount expert.and have a serial eeprom programmer.
I just confirmed on my monitor.. same symptom.. it was the 8 pin serial rom on the cpu card of the monitor (with the video jacks). 24lc16b IC replaced and i have a working monitor. $.28 part and $6 shipping.
I also have a CY199D which has the flashing blue light of death! Clearly this is not an isolated problem but an ethical problem. With this many defective units floating around, Tiger Direct knew you would eventually have problems with this unit and chose to take your money anyway! These units seem to be built as disposable units which I find environmentally disgusting! I suggest you share this experience with as many people as possible and let them know exactly what kind of retailer TD is.
Ps. this is actually my second unit...my first unit had all kinds of burned out pixels on the screen and TD didn't want to exchange it...the unit was about 6 hours old at the time I brought it back to the store! Can you spell CROOKS?
Is it possible to perform the firmware update on this monitor as I have the same problem and will not pay the money for the company to solve what is clearly their own quality problem. Appreciate the assist from anyone that knows.
I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/michael_a3cfcdf33e1501eb
Here is what I did...I have no technical experience but I bought a similar model unit with a cracked LCD screen on ebay (Hanns-G HX191) and then swithced the screens. I took the cracked one out of the HX191 and replaced it with the same size screen from my CY199....perfect working monitor! Just threw tho old one out! Total cost: $28.
To jeb3: The part in your picture is not the transistor. The switch transistor is the one mounted on the aluminum heat sink. If your monitor has the flashing LED problem, it's not the power board, it's the other board. Many have said the problem is the firmware. My monitor had the same problem and I have no idea how to fix it.
Adriananders, can you upload the firmware somewhere? i don't have a working unit to read from, but i am entitled to a copy for the non-working unit i do have.
Hello
This is for people that look at this thread in the future.
I work on LCD Monitors. The INC CY199 does lose its Hex
File as time goes on in the eprom, creating the blue to yellow flashing light.I can repair them if [email protected]
My friend was needing a form recently and used a business that hosts a searchable forms database . If you need to fill out it as well , here's a https://goo.gl/TAQzJ3.
Same problem
There are two of those screens here at the lab I work at; one is good and the other does what has been described (blue-amber-repeat). By part swaping, I found that it is not the power supply, but the video processor board that has the DVI and VGA connectors on it. That means that it is not the switching transistor. Normally this type of problem is caused by the power supply board but in this instance, the power supply is not to blame.
Any updates on this?
Don't buy any I-Inc product.
Same exact prob with 2 different monitors
Same problem here what did I-inc say

same exact problem,,,,,,,,,,,turned off the monitor with power button i-inc cy199d.......tried to turn it back on next day....no picture..........power button flashes amber and blue...worked perfect for 13 months.....now out of warranty.....imagine that.........
I have the same exact problem. One monitor - 18mos old. Looks like the only option is to replace it. I was beginning to wonder if it was the computer because this is the second monitor to go out on it. Thought it was something I was doing, but it doesn't look like it!
Having same issue as above!
Does any one know what part or parts are needed and how much? I would be willing to try fixing it myself.
With any success, I would post my findings. Any help would be usefull before buying another monitor.
same prob 2 different monitors
I sent one of mine for repair, $65 plus 20 to ship it.
Came back with the note, "firmware update".
Sounds like this is a problem with their firmware and I have to pay to fix it.
After 13 months (only 1 month after the warranty expired...), my CY199D is doing the same thing as yours. I opened it and I changed all the capacitors on the main board (right side) with no results at all, the power led is still blinking amber and blue with no display. Maybe I-INC should offer a solution...

Same problem 1.5 years old
Same EXACT problem. Two displays, three months apart. About three months after the warranty expired. The power button flashes between blue and amber, then shows blue steady for about 5 seconds, then starts flashing again. Iinc just told me it would cost $65 plus shipping.
Yes about the same usage time, same way the monitor quit, computer on, LCD off, come back, not working.
My monitor isi-inc 199d model yp 999
The lamp of start button flashed and the ecran is dark.
What do I do?
[email protected]
Bought 5, 4 of them are nothing but large paper weights!!!
Anyone discover a solution [parts required] yet?
The same problem, CY199D screen never powered up but the menu button flashes 3 times, then 2 times then goes solid blue and starts this all over again. Just over 1 year old. I have a 2nd one I bought at the same time and it is still working. Not a bad monitor but a real kick in the pants to have to go and buy 2 more.
Monitor has been working great for a year or so. Never touched the power switch until last night, when I needed to leave the computer on all night. In the morning it refused to power back up and just flashes blue/amber like everyone else.
Same problem after 13 months. Contacted I-Inc. Will cost more to ship it there for repairs than the cost of buying a new one. Very suspicious how so many are failing on month 13. Planned obsolescence at it's best. Legal action should be taken against I-Inc.
Add me to the list, (2) CY199D monitors, both bought at the same time, each died the same day! Â Same power issues as everyone else. Â Units obviously just over a year old...
Powered off for a week while replacing a bad hard drive on the PC, now it flashes 3 long, then a long and short. Over and over.
Piece of junk.
Turned off the monitor yesterday and when I tried to turn it on again I just got the same flashing blue light and then an orange light - screen completely black, nothing at all. All cables work ok and using old monitor I bought 6 years ago! Bought the new monitor in March 2008 so will go back to the shop I bought it from - what a pain
I have the exact same problem
"the blue power lamp flashed from off then amber then blue in some
sequence. Pressing the power button has not effect, won't go on or off.
The screen is completely dark with no sign of life"
Purchased 2 at the same time from TigerDirect. Contacted the company and they want $65 plus shipping. 7 months out of warranty. I wonder if there is some type of battery inside that went bad.
I have 2 of the same CY199D with the same flashing is and can not reset it. If someone does come up with the fix other than paying I Inc a repair charge can make a lot of money. Not worth the cost of repair and a piece of junk. Next time buy View Sonic with a 3 year warranty.
same problem here...blue - yellow flashing light..won't power on/off...no pic on screen...tried all suggestions on troubleshooting page of website...still not working. Contaced technical support @ i-Inc...no help..suggested sending it in...WON'T BUY ANOTHER ONE!!
Just happened yesterday - and I can't believe how many other people are in same boat. Ugh. Guess I'm buying a new monitor!
Same problem here
Class-action lawsuit anyone?
Same problem here. Monitor is less than 2 years old. Bought it from Tiger Direct.
Class-action lawsuit anyone?
Same issue...worked fine till last night...restarted my computer and now the screen will not come on...flashing blue/yellow to steady blue - similar pattern
Mine has the same problem since Oct, 2008. Never buy I-Inc or Hanns again!
LCD POWER LIGHT FLASHES FROM BLUE TO AMBER, NO VIDEO
Had the same problem 16 mo after purchase. Returned to Hannspree service center in Ontario, Canada. it was fixed for a flat rate of $65.00US. I had to pay $14.00CDN FedEx Ground shipping to get it there, Hannspree paid return shipping. I shipped it Monday, it was back at my door and working on Thursday of the same week.
I have the same problem. Light turns from blue to amber. Less than two years old. Do not buy this monitor.
I have 2 CY199D units. They were turned off to go on vacation recently. When I returned one of them started the flashing orange and blue. The power switch now does nothing. When will the 2nd go?
Same problem These guys are crooks
got the same problem here. cy199dp thats 21 months old. tried getting in touch with i-inc but recording said op hours were from 7am to 6pm pt. it was 3pm pt when i called and got that message...wtf...
if someone had the updated firmware avaliable, we might be able to figure this out.
turned it off with the switch last night and then wouldnt turn on this morning, flashing amber then blue
Same thing happened to me one month out of warranty, Bought an LG and will never buy I Inc again.
OK, I got mine fixed. it turned out to be the power board. I called the i-inc customer service line and after a little chat, the guy was able to get the ok from his supervisor to make an 'exception' and fix it under warranty (it was about 17 months old, 12 month warranty). I sent the monitor out on 12/17 and it was back to me fixed on 12/30. It cost me $16.29 to ship it to them and they covered the return shipping, parts, and labor. Now compare this to the email I sent them requesting information on how to get the monitor fixed on 12/12 that I just received a response to today, 1/8. That’s not customer service in my mind. If you want your monitor fixed you’ll have to call them and finagle with them a bit. Good luck.
Exactly the same problem.
Same EXACT problem here. I bought it in May of 2007. Looks like they don't last very long do they?
I bought one for my father inlaw, thought it was a good price from TD. His went out last month and mine this month. Go figure, try to save a buck and get junk in return.
Blank monitor, blue/yellow blinking power LED, setup OSD won't even come up. 4 months out of warranty. no visible damage to any capacitors.
proposed solution: class action lawsuit
same problem. blank monitor.
solution: go to Tiger and review the product. use the email contact to let them know about the issue. if enough consumers do this, maybe Tiger or Hanns will take corrective action.
I have the same problem, but now mines worse. I wrote down all the sizes and locations and I took out all the capacitors. I didnt get back to working on this for a week and now Ive lost my paper with the sizes and location #'s.
Ive looked for a schematic online but cant find one
Could someone PLEASE list the sizes and locations of the electrolytic capacitors...
Thanks
Have the same problem as everyone else...mine lasted 15 months.
Add me to the list also. I've had this since about Christmas 2007 and about 2 weeks ago it started doing the black screen, flashing LED.
I'm now using an old DELL 15in that is about 3 feet thick.
A friend gave me his failed C199D after having it fixed once under warranty. I'm a electronics tech and found the switching transistor in the power supply to be bad. The numbers on it are what are called "house numbers" and wont cross to a replacement. Has anyone identified what will work?
Same problem.
My father's computer screen started doing this after he went on a winter vacatil for 2+ week sand let the temperature drop to about 52 F. Monitor would not work when he returned. No useful suggestions in User's manual http://www.i-inc-usa.com/manuals/CY-199_.... Watching the blink rate makes me believe the speed of blinks is indicating a code. 4 slow yellow blinks followed by 1 quick yellow blink - error code 41? Anyone know what that might mean? Would the DVI-D connection still work if the D-Sub connection he's using is now permanently broken?
same here, and can not get my money back
I have 2 CY199D lcd monitors with the same "sudden death syndrome" and that;'s terrible considering it costs some 85$ plus to repair something which costs about 150$. I have other Hanspree/I-INC products that still work, but those CY199D lcd monitors are total ****.
Her's my pic of the power board. Â All caps seemed good, no bulges or dents. Â Removed and did resistance test on largest, was fine.
IF it IS the switching transistor as jeffreyclay (mar28 2009) has determined, perhaps we could get a pic of the culprit. Maybe others have a slightly different transistor. I'm not that sure which one is a transistor, but I took pics of the one I thought it might be, as well as the whole power supply board. Is this the transistor?
I see I'm not the only one with this problem. Sounds like we are all in the same boat and it sunk. Trash man comes Thurs.
