The parking brake wire must be connected to the parking brake system of you car. When the parking brake is engages, the LCD will be allowed to view your video. If not, the screen will produce an image saying, parking brake. this is a feature designed for the driver not to watch a video while driving. The video output on this unit will not be affected by this, el wire to connect is Pink - parking brake. this is wire connect with ground.

The parking brake on my xdvd8182 doesn't work, im thinking a broken wire. Ive tried the codes, grounding with a switch and hooking up to e brake

It is illegal and unsafe to watch the monitor while driving. I assume this is needed for an RV or something.

STEP ONE. Ground the E-Brake wire.
No matter which method you use, you must ground the brake detection wire. I suggest you tap it into the ground wire on your wiring harness (ensures a good ground).

1. FACTORY RESET METHOD (Temporary)
(This isn't the most effective, but it is the easiest to try, so it's worth a shot since it apparently works on some units.)
** Go to the Menu
** Get to the Settings Menu
** Select <yes> to Reset to Factory Settings.

Have recently heard complaints of this method not being permanent, as this is needed everytime they want to watch a DVD. Also, radio and screen angle presets are lost.

----------------

2. AUDIO CD METHOD (Permanent)
** Insert Audio CD
** Press PLAY
** Press STOP twice on remote
** Enter 26604 on remote
** Press ENTER
** Take out Audio CD and Insert a DVD

3. DVD METHOD (Permanent)
** Insert a DVD
** Let it play until you hear sound
** Press STOP twice on remote
** Enter 26604
** Press ENTER

The blue warning screen should immediately go away after pressing the last digit of "26604." Still press ENTER as a precaution.

Blue screen

that's because it is illegal to drive and watch video at the same time. there is a wire which needs to be connected to the ebrake wire.

No video on our tv

I found in the manual on page 13 bottom, that if you PRESS STOP buttom for 5 seconds of your remote controller then you can see the picture on the interlaced mode again on your TV.

Otherwise you have to connect you DVD to a unit that has progresiv scan, such as an HDTV, some computers if they have an input or to a projector .

I connected my DVD to a projector thru the VIDEO output and put eveything back to normal, and it is working fine now.

System Reset

Open CD disk tray. Press stop key and hold for 15 seconds, screen will appear.

Blue screen will not go away

The problem is that you're trying to bypass a safety feature. Newer video head units are smart enough to know when you've just grounded the brake switch wire so you can watch it while you're driving. Try hooking it up to your parking brake wire.
