Please help. I'm so frustrated with my Designer one. Trying to free motion quilt. Followed all the directions, taken it in to the shop 2x. They say nothing is wrong. Please tell me the steps to free motion quilt. I thought I was doing everything right but thread keeps breaking and thread loops on bottom are super loose , this is after the repairman adjusted!! I'm about ready to throw it out the window.
I had the same dissatisfaction when I switched from the 1+ to the Designer 1. After some trials I am now happy. You need the springy free motion foot. Part #413 03 76-45. You take off the white shank and screw it on with the metal bar over the needle hook. In the set menu turn the SensorQ on, the free motion on, select stitch 1 from menu V and drop the feed dogs. It also makes a big difference to use the straight stitch throat plate which just has a small hole for the needle to go through. One other hint is that I often have to reduce my needle tension 3 or 4 steps. Hope it works for you.
It sounds like a problem with tension, but are you using a free motion foot (this helps hold the fabric flat while the needle descends below the stitch plate to form the loop that makes a stitch). If normal stitching is fine, it has to be something different about the setup for free motion. Meg

I have the same problem with the Designer I that I am trying to solve. I want to do free motion stippling. I go into the set and click on Sensor Q foot on but then I don't see anywhere where it says free motion to click on. Can someone give me an answer?
