When you install the software, there are drivers that have to be installed. Those drivers don't exactly work on Vista or 7 since Pana has issued a new set of drivers. Try reinstalling the software (repair function) and see if the drivers reinstall.

If that doesn't work, and you are in the US, the bts dealer site (you have to register) has them.

How to enable & disable USB ports easily

if you need to disable USB devices from working accessing your system or prevent devices from working on usb ports (USB port blocking) create the following Registry file.

open note pad and copy/paste the following 2 lines

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor]

"Start"=dword:00000004

save the file name as

disableUSB.reg

when you double click the file it will disable all usb ports on your system ..and preventing anyone from installing or copying files to/from your system and usb devices will no longer work

to reverse this process/access do the same as above but copy/paste these 2 lines

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor]

"Start"=dword:00000003

save the file name as

enableUSB.reg

Now when you double click the file it will enable all usb ports on your system ..and allowing access to installing or copying files to/from your system and connecting devices to your system.

This has been tested on WIndows 98/XP ..and may not work on Vista/Windows 7

USB port gives new message "unknown device"

hello allan213

my name is ausi.

is it on all usb ports only one of them if it is in only one of them then the message you getting generaly means one of thw follwng.

1- if it is in only one of the ports then try it with a different device as well to see if it is the actual port or not.

2- the device you have plugged in needs to have drivers installed. normally should have been supplied with it.

3- the device you plugging in is faulty and the system can not access it.

4- the system usb ports are overloaded. (too many usb devices connected simultaneously)

good luck

Try using a different USB cable. Try a different USB port of that computer. If you have another computer, try using it with this hard drive.

It kinda sounds like it may be that USB hard drive too, getting flaky (going bad).

Trying different cable, USB port and another computer should help aid in debugging this. If it works with different items (cable, different USB port or computer) then you know it's your computer causing issues or it's operating system. If it's all the same outcome with different items tried then it's the hard drive causing issues. Not much to do but get another drive.

It should not matter if your computer's BIOS is set up for USB 1 or 2 support. The drive should still be seen with all files/folders in it, without slowdown or issues you've described.

I just bought an ASUS notebook but the USB cannot read any device what do i do?

Hi,Some USB devices are not APM/ACPI friendly and may not operate properly after resuming from Standby or Hibernation. Some of these steps may not apply to your computer. Test the attached USB device after performing each step.

1. Verify that a USB port and an operating system with USB support are being used to attach a USB interface external device to a ThinkPad system.

Note: The following is an example image of a ThinkPad system USB port
USB port

2. Verify that the latest BIOS and embedded controller for the ThinkPad system has been installed.

View the latest BIOS files for all ThinkPad systems(-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/BMOE-3VAM8Y.html)

3. Verify that USB is enabled in BIOS.
* For ThinkPad A, G, R, T, X and Z series systems

1. Turn on the computer.
2. While the "Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility" or "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower left area of the screen, press the F1 key, blue Access IBM, or ThinkVantage button.
3. Select Config and then click USB. The window should list USB BIOS support as [Enabled].
For ThinkPad 600, 600E, 770, 770E/ED, 770X, and 770Z systems

1. Press and hold the F1 key and then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
2. Select Config.
3. Select Initialize and then click OK.
4. Click Exit, click Restart, and then click OK to restart the system

4. Verify that the USB device and any required drivers were installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
This may require removing the USB device and the drivers, and then reinstalling the USB device and the latest drivers.

5. Verify the USB device works on another machine, if available.

6. Verify another USB device, if available, works on this machine.

7. Verify that the USB device is USB 1.1 or 2.0 compliant.
Plugging specific USB 1.1 compliant devices into a USB 2.0 compliant port will cause an error message dialog box to appear. That dialog box details that a non-high speed device has been attached to a high speed port. The device should function normally, but at a slower speed than if a 2.0 device is attached to 2.0 port. Most USB 1.1 devices will function normally in USB 2.0 ports.

8. Verify that external power is attached if required.
Some USB 2.0 devices will require additional power from external sources or an additional USB port to function correctly in USB 1.1 compliant computers.

9. Verify that the latest Microsoft Windows Service Pack has been installed for the operating system installed on the computer.
There are updates and fixes to USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 available in Service Packs.

10. If an operating system was installed from a retail CD, then refer to installing USB 2.0 support on ThinkPad systems.

11. Test the USB port for errors.
Run the PC Doctor diagnostics for all current ThinkPad systems. PC Doctor for DOS is available by pressing the F11 key or the blue Access button during startup to access the predesktop menu area. If these methods are not available for your system, then PC Doctor for DOS may be downloaded. This DOS version requires two or more floppy diskettes depending on the ThinkPad system.

12. If these steps have not solved your problem:
Refer to "Need more help?"

You could also try downloading an updated/fresh copy of the drivers for my specific model notebook from Asus's web site and just reinstall over the old ones.

And if you don't understand much about it, i would advice you take it back from where you bought it from and get a replacement if it's on guarantee...

Thanks for using fixya....

Each PABX or telephone system needs its own driver as each system has its own output format for the SMDR port. Therefore the MonTel system must have a suitable driver (technically a receiver) for each type of PABX that it can support.
