Why wont my acer netbook allow me to enter the network centre or to connect to virgin internet either wired or wireless. i'm running linux lite not windows

go to the command line and type ifconfig

find the network adapter you are trying to connect with likely eth0 or eth1 if ethernet or wlan0 for wifi

then type

dhclient wlan0 (or whatever adapter you're using.)

if this doesn't give you an ip address, the virgin internet access point may not play nice with linux.

I full signal strength from my rounter but wont connect

Hi there,

This could be due to wrong DNS settings or IP Address. You will need to go in to your network connections by doing the following: "Start, "Control Panel", "Network Connections" and then right click on your wireless connection and select "Properties", then when the new window opens scroll down to something called Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
58eb063.jpg
Open this by clicking "Properties" then adjust the settings as follows:
64ff617.jpg
- Obtain an IP address automatically
- Obtain DNS server address automatically

Then configure your router to assign the IP Address and DNS Settings automatically and your internet should work.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution.

Warm regards,

Replace the Cable and Check.

If the problem still persists then

Give the same network setting to the wireless network adapter as you assigned to your local area connection.

Note: Before doing that remove the IP address of that Local area connection or change it's IP address to some other number.

This will most probably solve your problem.

Otherwise, Used an external USB Wireless Adapter.

Netbook won't connect to my home network

I re-typed in the WPA number in the new netbook, which has now got it working. I found the WPA number by typing in a number Tiscali gave me to search for my router information (Netgear) in the search bar on my main computer and getting my WPA key from there.
