DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Hardware acer aspire 5715

If by this you mean the positive and negative poles on your Laptop's Power Adaptor are touching, this is NOT safe at all and should be disconnected from power immediately.

Such a problem can result in permanent damage to the Laptop, a power surge, and at worst, even a fatal electric shock to the user.

The Power Adaptor needs to either be replaced, else separate the positive and negative and individually wrap each one with electrical tape, obviously do this with the adaptor unplugged!

What side is positive & negative on a dell inspiron e1505 power plug? inside or outside is positive or negative???

Look on the transformer, or at the AC jack. Always use the EXACT type, power specs, DC v and Amps of the original. Beware of inexpensive aftermarket cord/chager/transformers, sometimes they do not play well with your laptop. As a rule the male pin/pins is the positive and the outer is the negitive. Take a look at this: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?k=ac+adapter+inspiron+e1505&_nks=true&c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&category_id=6348

My battery just went dead and phone wont charge. I took the battery out overnight and it came on till the battery went dead again. I have removed and inserted battery several times but nothing happens.

It is better change the battery first, know if the phone runs in good condition as well as it charged after a low battery level, when the phone still got the same problem, your phone might be shorted were the value of resistance is double using a multi tester. To test if your phone is grounded, you need a multi tester and range the selector to Rx1 * tap the positive pin in the positive battery terminal of the board as well as the negative pin into the negative battery terminal too,the meter should raise up. * now tap the negative pin of the tester into the positive battery terminal and the positive pin into the negative battery terminal,if the rate is 0 it means the phone is good, but if raises high,it means the phone is grounded and had a power supply problem.in this case, bring the phone to a mobile service center for a complete diagnosis and troubleshooting.

How do i connect the casing power to the motherboard

Open ECS web site and download the manual for your MB, P4VMM2 V7.3; http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=333&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Manual&MenuID=1&LanID=9
You will need Adobe reader to view the manual if you currently do not have it. Download and install Adobe; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ With Adobe you can zoom in and out to assist you in connecting your case to the motherboard. Start with page 9. Page 12 and 13 shows you how to connect your case LEDs to the motherboard. Pin 1 is positive for your HDD_LED. Pin 3 is negative for the HDD_LED. ECT. Most wires coming from the case are inserted into a jumper and most jumpers are marked. Ex: HDD for hard disk drive, RS for Reset Switch, PW for power on/off switch ECT.
The case wire colors do vary from case to case. The wire colors blue, light blue, green, light green and red are most common to be positive. The colors white and black are common for negative. Below is a picture of a typical front panel case to motherboard hook up. Less the white standoff jumper block.

Your board uses an internal speaker. Connect the red wire to pin 1 and connect the black wire to pin 4. See page 11 for location and page 12 for connection.
Use the manual. Its a great guide.

Happy holidays!

Connecting front panel wiring to INTEL 845GRG Motherboard

Hello davideiker1, the Intel D845GRG MB manual is shared with another Intel board. (D845GBV MB). Go to this Intel site & download the D845GRG manual; http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-008873.htm You'll need Adobe reader to view the manual. Download Adobe from this link; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
See page 9 for motherboard layout.
The front panel connectors are shown on page 68, see item C.
On page 69 is, Table 31 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header. Front Panel Header (J9G1).
Pin 1 is power for the hard disk drive led, pin-3 is negative for the hard disk drive. Wire colors coming from the case are important. Look at all of the front case wires. The common color for each 2-pin connector will be ground. In most cases the ground wire is white, except for the internal speaker. Ground for the speaker is normally black. (This motherboards speaker is built into the MB, no hook up is needed).
Pin number 2 is positive for the case power led which lights up as green. Pin 4 is negative for the power led.
The reset switch is a bit different. Pin 5 is negative & pin 9 is positive, however if your case uses a two pin connector than connect pin 7 as ground & pin 9 for positive. The On/Off switch, pin 6 is positive & pin 8 is negative.
If this manual is not what you see on the MB, please advise.

Good luck davideiker1!

Aspire One NO turn on at all

You need a DC Jack Repair/Replacement..
your dc jack is the port where your AC Charger plug plugs in to on the laptop.. They can Short out over time and the solder that connects the positive/negative pins burns off which causes the power to short out ... which in turn cuts off power connection to the laptop and can cause motherboard damage if not repaired..
