TV struck by lightning

Bypassing a board or a part on the board would be like removing the spark plugs from a car and expecting it to run. On a serious note, if the TV has lightning damage recycle it and buy a new TV, you may be able to turn in a claim to your insurance company, once a set has storm damage even replacing a board may not fix it long term, in our service center we usually won't repair a TV the customer advises of lightning damage,it's a good way to get call backs

I worked in a tv shop for many years...can be as simple as a fuse to literally handfuls of componenets or a fried board ( the actual board can swell up or burn) Homeowners renters insurance may cover it.

Call your insurance company and put in a claim,your t.v. is fried pie.

What model TV is it from ? The Powers Supply schematics are usually found in the TV service manuals. The information in the service manuals is very limited and you most likely won't be able to get a full schematic of the PS.
Alternativly buy a replacement board. They seem to be widely available.

It may be the cost effective answer as service manuals are quite often, not cheap.

You can change out all the heating elements and controls, but hard to say what lighning did without seeing and being there. Sounds like the control board got burnt and that was the smell you smelled, but I can't promise the element is good.

If you are using a cable box with this set, the problem may be in the box settings.
Try this:
open the settings menu on the box . You may have to select"more settings" or something like that title to find the audio selections.
Under the audio, you will find recording and viewing volume settings. put these to maximum and save.
Your volume should now be more than adequate.

Hate to see a $1,000 TV go down the toilet.
If your lucky, you can try checking the fuses inside the TV.
The lightning may have taking out only your power supply board, shopjimmy.com may have replacements for about $100. But, I can't tell you for sure that will fix the problem.
You may have to take to a repair shop to find out for sure.

PROBABLE POWER SUPPLY OR CONTROL BOARD PROBLEM. TAKE TO AUTHORIZED SHARP SERVICER TO IDENTIFY WHICH BOARD. SOME POWER SUPPLY BOARDS CAN BE TROUBLE SHOT TO COMPONENT LEVEL.

Two things normally happens after a L storm:1.) One must unplug TV for 5 minutes, then plug back in. 2.) Main glass fuse out, will be near a/c cord. 3.( Power regulator IC may be out. Try these first.

If it was struck by lightning, the surge would completely fry the insides of your TV. Your TV probably won't work anymore and you may have to consider replacing it. Some TVs have accident warranties so something like this could be protected, but if not, you will have to purchase a new one.
