Your TV probably has an optical audio output. Go to Amazon and get an Optical to RCA converter, like an FiiO D3.
Works great and bridges your new TV to your old audio technology (which is just fine).
It seems as the projector is overheating possibly, or is going into sleep mode from inactivity.
Go through the projectors settings and see if you can find a sleep option and clean the filters for the projector.
