Aspect ratio problems on Samsung LN-S2651D Flat Panel TV
Previously, with the TV picture size set to 16:9, HD channels correctly filled the entire screen while non-HD channels had letter-boxing on the right and left sides of the image.
Without changing any settings, when I turned on my tv today, the picture on HD channels now appeared stretched, with letter boxing above and below the image. On non-HD stations the picture now fills the entire screen. The TV picture size continues to be set to 16:9 aspect ratio.
I have an HDMI connection to Comcast digital cable box.
I tried unplugging the cable box, and unplugging the tv with no success fixing the problem. I also have a DVD player connected and playing a movie, the picture appears to be fine.
When I changed the picture size setting on the TV to "zoom" the HD channels then fill the screen (with some loss of the image either on the top/bttm or on side depending on which zoom option is selected). In the zoom mode, the non-HD stations look very distorted.
In short it appears that the TV isn't displaying the channel correctly. Moreover, this happened without my changing of any settings.
I loose part of the screen view in 16:9 and 'just scan' modes. I can't view the score ribbons in hockey (or basketball) in any mode except 4:3, but that is distorted since I'm viewing HD channels. I've toggled through all screen size settings, but can't find one that displays the entire picture. Heads are cut off, tickers aren't visible, etc. What setting corrects this?
First received Flat Screen SOny 32" we had the same problem. Head tops were cut off, ticker at bottom of screen was smaller, (grainy picture) Tried wide zoom, was the same, until Atlantic Broadband tech came. On the converter box, he scanned the manual. This part I cannot explain. I think the manual with all the specs are there on the individual pages. Then he made sure it was programmed ton 10801, (instead of 720p, 480., etc)Then he went in to the Screen setting and chose FULL. Ticker was smaller, but all the info was there though smaller. But the heads were now ok. Sometimes the lower channels pictures were grainy, but HD channels 902, 903, 904 was perfect. This is in Miami, FL, of course where EVERYTHING is screwed up, in addition to the power outages, lightning strikes, and cable outages.First received Flat Screen SOny 32" we had the same problem. My converter box has been set up, channel scan completed and plays fine. I set program I wanted to view and channel changed so I could watch my program then converter box cut off. When I try to turn back on, box comes on, green light comes on and iview name comes on the tv. Next, green light goes out, tv screen says no signal and I have a blank screen. Turned box off and on manually and with remote, unplugged from wall for ten minutes, still get nothing. What can I do?My converter box has been set up, channel scan completed and plays fine. I have set up and scanned channels available in my area. I have watched television with this converter box without any problems however, after scheduling the box to view a program, the converter box shut off at the end of the program. When I turn the box back on, both manually and with the remote, I get the name iview on the tv screen and then "no signal" appears on the tv screen and none of the channels will come in. I have unplugged the box and tv from the wall and waited 10 minutes but still no success. What can I do to correct this problem?I have set up and scanned channels available in my area. Re: Aspect ratio problems on Samsung LN-S2651D Flat Panel...
The aspect ratio (zoom) button on the cable remote had been changed. On Brighthouse the # button toggles through the zoom settings. It's not a tv issue, it's a cable fix.

You can change how your tv displays in the video setting menu under display. You will have a choice between 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, cinema or automatic. I think to fill your screen the best you should choose 16:10 but this is not going to guarantee that all channels will fill the screen. It still has to do with how it is being broadcast to you.
my samsung has a blue button on the lower right side of the remote the botton is labled (P-size) pressing the button cycles the set for the several screen size functions.--Wide Fit--4:3--16:9. If you are watching network TV on an antenna you will get a full picture on 16:9, but you may be watching on cable without HD.
You should be able to change the aspect ratio to fit the size of your screen. This will be the 16:9 4:3 16:10 settings.
You can access these by going to MENU---> PICTURE -----> Select ratio that works----> exit out and watch TV.
IF this will not fix it you need to look into the signals being fed to the TV as sometimes they can have a funny effect on the output picture. Some cable boxes will alter the picture and then it won't come out right on the TV. If it is all inputs doing this tho then changing just the Aspect ratio on the TV should solve the problem.
Many times HD channels will come in more clear, but with a smaller picture or widescreen view. There should be a button on your remote called 'wide' or 'zoom' and it will let you adjust the size on the fly. If you adjust the view while watching an HD channel, and you switch to a standard channel, you will have to change the ratio back. For other information and help with LG TVS visit

Have you check with the cable company to make sure they are broadcasting to you in HD ? It takes more bandwith so some cable companies will charge extra for it so you will have to check.
First set your tv to 16:9 aspect ratio. Then go to the source ie: Cable Box or Sat Box. Then go into the User Menu and find the Set Up or HD settings or picture settings. You need to set the Box to the "Stretch" setting. Right now your source box is set ot 4:3 aspect ratio.. If you have difficulty in changing the aspect ratio on the source box, call the Cable or Sat co. They can help you.
In your philips menu there is an option to turn of your auto aspec ratio to OFF then using your sky remote go to services, 4 then picture and ensure that this is set to 16:9
i was going crazy then i finally found a clue on google: hit the setting button on your digital cable remote, go into 'display', change aspect ratio to 16:9, screen size to 'stretch', and output to 1080 or 720 depending on what you have. Were HD channels full screen? If they were they were NOT set properly as above anyway and non-hd channels were black on both side with some having black all the way around on some channels, correct? Hope it helps! I have time warner digital cable and an 52 LG 70 with HDMI...no settings on your tv will fix this if you are in a similar situation b/c its the settting in the digital cable box that need to be re-adjusted.
You should contact Samsung service to know if the internal setup for the picture sizing was not adjusted properly at the factory.
Take care that some of these sets have a user zoom mode. Maybe it is in the zoom mode. Check in your instruction manual before calling for service support.
