None of the lights in the ring light up and the controlers wont sync.

I just moved and when I hooked my 360 back up, the consel would dispay the normal xbox360 boot, but the lights in the ring do not light up and the controllers will not sync. Do any of you have an idea how I can fix this? I was thinking that it may be the Ring of Light Board. Any insight?

Thanks

Yes, the 360 runs and displays the dashboard on the TV. But, the light in the ring does not light and the controllers do not sync. Plus I bought another new controller and it wouldn't sync either. any ideas?

yes I do have the same problem...It just wont sync no matter what, but when you put the game on..It actualy works, but the controler & the light doesnt work...

I have the same problem! I was in the middle of a game and my batteries died. I changed the batteries and turned the controller back on and it stopped being in sync. I tried hitting the sync button on the controller and the 360 but it didn't work. I even tried a second controller but it did the same thing. The lights on the 360 come on, the sync lights spin around at the same time as the lights on the controller. Then they start to flash like they've found each other. The flashing on the controller and 360 start out flashing in sync but after a few flashes you can tell they're a few seconds apart and then it goes back to not being in sync.

I bought my xbox360, a pro 60gb, yesterday and plugged it in today, I played with it this morning but as I get home from work and tries to turn it on, I get no lights flashing but the console starts anyway greeting me with the new dashboard, but I can't sync my controller! This really pisses me of because I just bought it. So do I have to turn it in or should I just send it microsoft to get it repaired. What is this problem anyway? :S

I have a similar problem, my game starts, drive opens, everything but the light around the power button where the rings of death would otherwise show up. My Xbox's controllers will connect just fine, however, when I turn my console off, the controllers stays on? Is it just the Ring of Light Board? But why won't the controller turn off when I turn the console off?

  • cubb477 Feb 07, 2009

Well, this is our THIRD xbox 360 in TWO YEARS!! When we turned it on there are no lights at all (no green ring etc.) but it played a game as long as it was a one player game w/ controller plugged in. When we tried multi player such as Rock Band it will not connect any except the microphone (the only one that actually plugs in). First XBox360 just ate games when it actually decided to read them, second one didn't last 6 months...that one just went kerplunk out of the blue, no power at all even though power source lights up fine. I spent hours and hours on the phone with microsoft 'help' trying to get the first two taken care of (all to no avail btw), I just can't bring myself to sit on the phone with them again for hours on end!

My xbox 360 ring of light will not light up, but the console works just fine. I have one wired controller that works fine but about 2 days ago i purchased Guitar Hero World Tour and last night i tried to play it and the only thing i could do was sing. The wireless drum set and guitar will not sync to my xbox. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the ROL not lighting up. Any help? I am furious after spending so much money and not being able to play.

This is the second Xbox 360 I've gotten back from Microsoft after the RROD issue. I had wireless controllers, and they would not sync up to the latest system (could get the spinning sync lights on the controllers by pressing the small white sync button, but could not get the spinning sync lights on the console when pressing the sync button on console). I just hooked up the controllers via the cable and after that, they would sync wirelessly. Didn't think much of it until I purcased Rockband 2. Same issue, but there is not any way to hook up the guitar or drums via cable so they can be initially recognized. There does not seem to be any way to command the console to start sync via software. The console button does click, so I know it's operating the microswitch, but it still may be malfunctioning (and may have always been like this from the factory). Does anyone know of a way / mod that would allow me to command the console to go into sync mode via software, button combos, etc.?

does your 360 actually start up a game. if it doesn't then you're lights are probably bad and you have the ring of death (vid card, easy fix or return it under warrenty...yes you still have the warrenty, for the ring of death its lifetime).

if it does start up then try to sync the controller the way you're supposed to. click the 360 button than the controller. if you still don't see any lights flashing turn it in under warrenty

I had a xbox 360 with the same problem. I tried the fix on here and it worked part of the time, but would mess up again after a while. Finally
a friend gave me a broken xbox360 and I replaced the RF controller board out of mine with the one from the broken xbox 360 and I have never had a problem since. It has been running for a little over a year now without a single problem. So If you have a problem with the lighted ring not coming on, and not able to sync your controllers but it does display the screen. First try reseating the RF controller board. (its the little circuit board with the power button on it. If that doesn't work.... replace the board....they are pretty cheap off of ebay.

SOURCE: one flashing red light on xbox360 ( not red ring)

The specific type of hardware failure can be determined by a "hidden" error code
Turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
Press and hold the sync up button (the small white one), while holding that button press the eject button.
The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code (as described below).
Release the eject button and press it again.
The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.
Release the eject button and press it again.
The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.
Release the eject button and press it again.
The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.
Release the eject button and press it again.
The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.
You should be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by the rate in which they flash.
Here is how you interpret the LEDs to get the code number:
All four lights flashing - 0
One light flashing - 1
Two Lights flashing - 2
Three lights flashing - 3

Once you get this code, go to: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726
To get the reason for the code.

SOURCE: Xbox 360 controllers wont sync when using the

Opt out the easy way and put a rechargeable battery pack in the controller and use a plug and play controller cord to connect the console to the controller and , voila!, they should be now sync'd to each other.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

I havn't had the chance to work on a Slim yet, but from my experience with Phat 360s, you should clean out the connectors for the Ring of Light board with alcohol before reattaching it to the motherboard.

My son has a xbox360 and were trying to get xbox live to connect and it wont we had it working just fine on his brothers hes not home so we hooked it up to the other xbox 360 and it wont connect

1 Disconnect all accessories and wired controllers from the Xbox 360.
2 Hold the "Guide" button down for three seconds on any wireless controllers, then respond to the prompt on your television screen to disconnect the controllers from your system.3 turn on the wireless headset by pressing the "Power" button in the center of the earpiece. 4 Press the "Connect" button on the front of your Xbox 360 system. 5 Press the "Connect" button on the wireless headset. The ring of lights around the power button of the Xbox 360 system should spin and blink once. One of the lights should remain lit up, indicating the port number that the headset is using. If you do not see any lights on the system, you may have a faulty wireless headset.6 Press the "Guide" button on your wireless controller to reconnect the controller to the Xbox 360 system. If you are using a wired controller, you can plug it back into the system.7 Press the "Connect" button on the top of your wireless controller to sync the controller with your system. You should see the connection light around the "Guide" button on the controller light up, indicating which port you are connected to. You should also see a corresponding port light in the ring around the power button of your Xbox 360 system 8 Press the "Connect" button on the wireless headset until the port light on the headset matches the light on the controller and Xbox 360 system. For example, if you are the first player, the light for port number one should be lit up on the Xbox system, the controller and the headset. When all lights correspond, your headset should be properly connected.

The lights keep blinking but nothing is happening. It wont connect to the console. What should I do?

It's possible the xbox 360 controller isn't connected to the xbox 360. Turn the xbox 360 on by pressing the power button, and wait until it reaches the dash board. Then press the controller syncing button on the xbox 360 itself and wait until the xbox 360's ring lights start to spin around. Then press and hold the synch button on the controller (located near the charge port) and the controller should synch up with the xbox 360.

My controller will not link with my xbox. it just flashes 4 green lights around the circle. what can i do?

Did you sync it? here's how to sync it:

Step 1: Power on your Xbox 360 console2_bing.gif. In this guide I'm assuming everyone already has their console2_bing.gif hooked up, if not, contact me.

Step 2: Power on Xbox2_bing.gif 360 Controller. Make sure it has a battery pack that has correctly place and working batteries or charged re-chargeable battery pack.

Step 3: Locate the small circular sync button on your controller. It is near where your controller can be plugged in (between the LB and RB).

Step 4: Locate the small circular sync button on your Xbox 360 console. It is next to Memory Unit slot 2.

Step 5: Press and hold the controller sync button until the green power lights start spinning.

Step 6: While your controller lights are still spinning press and hold the console sync button. The console's lights should spin also, then flash, and finally show the player slot light on both the console and the controller.

Viola! You've synced your wireless controller! You can sync up to four controllers.
Also, you can use this guide to sync to different Xbox 360 consoles. So you can bring only your controller to your friend's house.

Note: If you sync your controller to another console, you will have to re-sync it to your own afterwords.

I had a similar issue with the XBOX 360 Wireless controller. It blinked slow when it was turned on and when synced, the XBOX got the signal, the controller got the signal, but after the full flashes of both, the console ring stayed dark and the controller kept on blinking.

I managed to get it connected by powering the console on using the "XBOX" button on the controller and then pressed the connect button just as the console was opening up the user interface, apparently the console is looking for controllers when it's just getting up and running and syncs better at that point.

Hope this helped!

New xbox 360 not reading old 360 wireless controller

It sounds like it needs syncing in. On the controller there is a little button between the LB & RB buttons, when pressed the the green LED ring will light up clockwise.
At the same time press the sync button on the 360, just to the left of the power button, the green LED ring on the 360 will also light up clockwise, after a few seconds both controller and 360 should sync.

My second wireless controller for my xbox360 wont work.

You still have to hit the sync button on the controller and on the console to marry them. Just like when you first got the console. Just hit the small round button on the console that is between the memory card slot 2 and the power button, and the sync button on the top of your controller. The lights on both will spin then lock. They will be married and you will see the controller 2 light on on your ring.
