Unfortunaly , you can't . You need the install disc . You can retreive existing data by extracting the hdd from your desktop and connect it to a healthy computer . Format the HDD afterwards , put it back into the desktop and launch install disc .

I assume that it trys to boot but then stops before it gets into windows? If you don't get anything at all that is a hardware problem.

When you try booting up hit F11 or F12. If your laptop has a repair partition this will start the recovery software which will reload everything and restore it back to factory. On some models it might offer to do a restore or install of windows which would keep your documents and pictures etc intact.

If your model didn't come configured that way you will need the restore disks that either you created (or were supposed to, few actually people do) or order the restore dvd from HP.

Your other option is to try and get/borrow a vista home basic install dvd and use your valid serial number with it.

One way to wipe out your computer is by Getting a Vista Disk or Operating system of your choice. It has to be a full installation disk. Try WIndows 7!!! I use it its great..When you install a new OS(operating System) it gives you the option to reformat your disk drive which in turn wipe out all your data and give your computer a fresh clean install..first things first..get a Valid Copy of Windows of your choice. I recommend WIndows 7 Professional.

Unfortunately not, this option is available in Windows 7 but not Vista. In order to repair an installation of home basic, you need a home basic disk.

Ok download drivers for vista then extract and find folder VISTAx86 open and right click net8185.inf and choose install option, if not install and have problem post coment rere, "dont work" ang find for xp, link here for official

Chances are the performance of vista on an eMachine is an ugly sight anyway. My advise would be to downgrade to XP or try a good solid Linux distribution like Ubuntu. It will preform faster and be more stable that it ever was with Vista. Don't get me wrong I am not a total vista hater but it is a hog.

I AM CURENTLY AWITING ANOTHER REBOOT DISK AS THE MANUFACTUERS OF THE LAP TOP SAID IT MIGHT NEAD THE FULL INSTAL OF VISTA HOME BASIC AND NOT JUST THE REBBOT PROGRAM VERSION I GOT WITH THE PC. AS THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE START UP SETINGS THAT CONFIGS THE BIOS TO USE VISTA. ( I DIDNT UNDERSTAND THIS TILL I ACTURLY GOT INTO THE BIOS) THE NEW DISK WILL ASLO INCLUDE A NEW PRODUCT KEY THAT DOES NOT NEAD TO BE CONFIRMD VIA INTERNET TO USE AS IT IS JUST THE BASIC VISTA PROGRAM THAT SHOLD ALOW ME TO INSTAL MY UTILITIS AND DRIVERS TO INSTAL THE MODEMS AND OTHER SYSTEM FILES. WHEN I ORIGANLY GOT THE LAP TOP IN 2007 THE REBOOT &RECOVERY DISKS ONLY HAD THE SET UP PROGRAMS THIS ALOWS YOU TO INSTAL VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM BUT NOT ALL THE PROGRAMS WILL WORK AS YOU NEAD TO DOWNLOAD THE FULL SYSTEM SETINGS. SO JUST TO LET OTHERS KNOW IF YOU GOT A LAP TOP OR PC THAT ONLY HAD A REBOOT DISK TO CHEK THAT IT IS THE FULL VERSION ( NEW VISTA RECOVERY 2008 ) AND NOT THE 2007 ONE

ok call your computer manufacturer let them no ,then call your internet service provider and also try to use any other disc.
