I shoot long depositions with my VX-1000 and I'm trying to change the recording speed to make the tape last longer. How do I do that? I can't find it in the manual anywhere. Thanks!

When was the last time you ran the "head cleaning" tape in the machine? As tape collects dust and dirt - it gets deposited on the recording and playback heads. This ruins playback and recording quality. Also, since tape is magnetic - they tend to magnetize the heads, too (just like reel to reel, 8 track & cassette player / recorders). Demagnetizing them will help too. Here are links to both products:
Hi
I have come across dual speed recorders before and rather than type out the alternatives ways of speed setting, I found you a manual which can be downloaded from here: Aiwa VX S135U Operating Instructions Manual
by clicking on the green download button, filling in the letters they require and saving the manual to disk. It is in pdf format so you can use the search facility in Adobe Acrobat Reader to find the relevant bit to you. I used "speed" which worked well.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers
1. Try to change the tape speed on your machine. Sometimes that will fix it.
2. Maybe the tape is just old (has been dictated on too many times) and in that case, have the person dictate on new tapes and discard the old ones. They dont last forever.
You need to use longer tapes. The DER-11 is a DVCAM deck which when recording, uses a faster tape speed then mini DV. Think of your older VCR's. They had SP, two hours, and EP or SLP, which would be six hours. The SP speed would give a better picture. DVCAM is more like an SP recording except digital and a lot better. More information is laid down on the tape.
You'll have to jump up to the full size DVCAM tapes in order to record the full hour.
it will automatically play at the speed the tape was recorded at. but if you want to change record speeds here's how: you should be able to access menu functions from the front of the vcr, if so, put a tape to be recorded into the unit and then set the timer for a couple of minutes.while you are on the timer menu it will ask you for recording speed. set the timer record speed to ep and let it record for two minutes and let it record for the full time untill it stops recording. the record speed will automatically change settings to whatever you used last on timer record.
I assume by "last longer" you mean more record/play time. The slp mode is the slower tape speed, which means longer record/play time. The trade-off with the slower speed is poorer video quality.
As regards tape life, if this is what you mean- I don't know- tape life is often a matter of the quality of the tape itself.
hi ,
many faults for that
1- have you tried to play an old tape with sound to check that the video plays sound ?? if you have the sound of a previous tape then move to
2- from where you are recording if you are recording from tv rf channels then move to 3 or if you are recording from dve chek the audio connection that are coming from dvd to video and change it
3- the remaining last fault is you have a dirty audio head needs cleaning and if you don't know how to do so go to qualified person and if you are familiour with that open case and clean and if no refer to 5
5- the audio head it is a chrome cube with a black two thins lines in the right of the mechanism near the pinch roller rounded thing that draws the tape to move
get a clean cloth and spread alchohol on it and rub the rectangle cube audio head up and down ovewr the two thin black things inside it
please don't forget to do excelent rate cause i here to help you
regards
