Carriage Jam problem. Have gone through complete troubleshooting routine, but the message just won't go away. Says ""Carriage Jam". No debris to left or right of carriage. In fact, the jam was in the paper tray and didn't even rip the paper. Any Ideas?

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Continuous c5280 "carriage jam" error message

If you already followed these instructions, the last thing to do is to service the printer. I don't know of any self-fix options for this printer. It's worth validating that you've already completed these steps as described.

Message appears "Paper jam".

Paper jams can be true or false. A false paper jam occurs when the error message displays, but no jammed paper is in the product. The following solutions apply to both true and false paper jam errors.

Print a self-test report Use the following steps to print a self-test report.
  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  2. Press Setup , and then press 2 . The Print Report menu displays.
  3. Press 1 to select and print a Self-Test Report
Solution one: Clear the paper jam Step one: Remove loose paper from the tray Remove any loose sheets of paper from the input tray and the output tray.

Step two: Clear the jam from the back of the All-in-One

  2. Gently pull any jammed paper out of the rollers inside the product.
  3. Carefully remove any scraps of paper that are still stuck in the product.
  4. Reattach the rear access door. Insert the two posts on the right side of the door into the holes on the product, and then push the door in until it snaps into place.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product, and then press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn on the product.
Step three: Clear the jam from the front of the All-in-One Follow these steps to remove the paper jam from the front of the product.

  2. If you see jammed paper, gently pull it out.
Step four: Print a self-test report
  • If the issue persists , continue with the next solution.
Solution two: Make sure that the carriage can move freely Follow these steps to make sure that the carriage can move freely. Step one: Check the paper path
  1. Check for any paper or object that might be stopping the carriage. Figure 4: Example of paper stuck in cartridge access areac01950807.gif

I have a MFC-5460CN and it is flashing across the screen "print unable 30 see troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapter in user guide" and we do not have a user guide

The 30 error says the carriage is not moving freely. Look on the extreme right and left with a light and see if there's a paper wad on either side. If you had a paper jam you could have pulled the encoder strip out of the sensor slot on the carriage and may need a shop to repair, but check for paper first.

Carriage Jam message that wont clear

ok..so please try these steps..
1)turn off the printer..open the front door of the printer(where you see the cartridge)..try moving the carriage manually from right to left or from left to right..if you are able to move then it is a false carriage jam error message..if you are unable to move then the machine should be replaced..because this is a hardware issue..
2)connect the printer to the wall outlet..and then check for the error message..if you are still getting the same error message..
3)unplug the power chord from the back of the printer..press and hold OK and CANCEL button together..
4)while pressing those two buttons plug in the power chord to the back of the printer..
5)after you plug in the power chord do not release those two buttons untill screen goes blank..
6)once the screen is blank release those two buttons and turn ON the printer..
check for the error message..if its still the same then go ahead and replace the machine..because it is false carriage jam error message..
please try these steps and let me know if the solution has worked..

My HP photosmart c5280 keeps saying there is a carriage jam. what is this?

Lift the printer cover. undo the 2 screws (torx head). remove the right hand end of the printer casing.

You will see a blavck plastic moulding with a couple of gears (it controls the cartridge cleaning). This is the cause of your jam - it is out of sync. Turn the machine on and watch what happens with this moulding you will see what I mean by out of sync and it can just be gently pushed back into alignment. Once it is ok turn the unit off and then on again and your jam should be cleared. Put it back together again and print away.

Carriage Jam

If either a paper jam or blocked carriage error message appears on
the control panel display, there might be some packing material inside the HP allin-
one. Lift open the print-carriage access door. The orange shipping lock might
still be in place on the left side of the HP all-in-one. Pull out the orange shipping
lock and throw it away

Carriage Jam

You are lucky you can print ANYTHING! My unit has NEVER worked (3 years) due to a hardware defect of HP. I downloaded patches, cleaned/replaced cartridges, etc.
Spoke to HP last nite-Was told printer was junk-they don't carry it or any parts to fix it anymore!! I was told to replace it!
