Hi I bought your wireless router today as well as a new PC. In running the instal disk for the router, I get to the end of the set up after entering my ISP, username and password. The install gets to 99% then fails and says contact your ISP. I have spoken to AOL and they confirm that I am entering the correct details and there is nothing they can do. The router itself seems fine, it is just that the 'internet light' stays red in colour and is driving me nuts. Any ideas how I can get it internet enabled? Many thanks Mark Dowding

See how AOL connects to the router and in the menu there are different requirements PPP, PPPoE, dynamic, etc.

SOURCE: security enabled d link router

If you got it from a friend, the first thing you should do is take a paper clip, and look in the back of the router for a little hole labelled "Reset". This will reset the router to the default settings. With the unit on, press this button for about 10 seconds. After this, hook up the router, by ethernet connection to your pc. Once the connection is made to your pc, and the router is on, go to http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/ depending on the exact model. It will ask you for a username/password. The user name is "admin", and there is no password. From there, you are in the router configuration. Click "Wireless" on the left of the page to edit your wireless configuration. Click apply when you have everything set to your liking, and you're done!

SOURCE: Router doesn't obtain WAN IP address (DHCP)

you can hook the router up and go into the settings by when it is hooked up to your computer, type in http://192.168.0.1 and the password is usually user or admin. the password is usually password, unless it was changed. you may be able to change settings to fix this problem through that GUI

SOURCE: No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

Lost internet connection morning of 1/15/08 through router and directly through laptop 1. But, can get internet connection directly for laptop 2 and laptop 3! Cannot get a valid IP address anymore when laptop 1 is directly connected. Also, I discovered ping works for any lettered website even when the router is not connected to the wall, but correctly times out for a numbered website (eg 216.31.156.10). Completely stumped. Please help!

Hi, I bought a today a new Laptop. In order to install wireless on my new computer I have to enter my old password. But as a matter in fact I really don't remember it again. Could you be of assistance?

It depends on where you got the router from. Is there not a sticker on the bottom giving you the WEP/WPA key or a similar bit of paper in the box giving you the code. Failing that all I can suggest it performing a hard reset (this will be explained in the manual) and setting up the router again

New computer; can't find original installation disk

You should not need an installation disc.

Connect your PC to the router with a network cable and type 192.168.1.1 into the browser adddress bar. This will connect you to the router setup and maintenance screen, from where you can configure the router. If necessary you can reset it to factory settings and enter a new password.

You can then disconnect your cable and use it wirelessly.

I just got a wireless n network adapter. for some reason, it won't work. the light is flashing green and when i tried to put in the installation disk, the disk wouldn't run, saying that it is a mixed media...

If the light is flashing but the disk does not start you need to go into system settings/console/startup and turn the "Disk" auto startup ON. It was set to off for me by default. Restart and it will install the update from the disk.

I bought a wireless router wrt54g and I dont have the disk to install it so what can I do?

You won't need the disk.  You can plug your computer directly to the router.  From there it should receive an IP address.
Go to Internet Explorer>192.168.1.1>enter credentials, then you can setup your wireless settings.
Use window to manage your wireless services.

Belkin router

as long as you know your isp password and usename for your broadband connection, all you need to do is connect to the router via an ethernet cable and type in your web browser 192.168.2.1 to enter.

You will need to the router login details which is normal 'admin'

select ppoa or ppoe depending on your isp and the router should connect to the net

No connection to desktop, but great connection to laptop???

Hi Lindsay,

The very first thing that you need to do is to personalize the wireless settings of your ultra range plus router. Since your laptop is wired directlty to the router and is working properly, you can access the router's GUI to personalize the wireless settings. Open internet explorer on the working computer and type http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar, you will be prompted to enter a username and password, by default there is no username and the password is "admin" if you have setup a password using the setup cd then use that one.
Now your inside the setup page of your wireless router, look for the tab the say's Wireless and below you will find four sub menu namely; Basic Wireless Settings, Wireless Security, Wireless Mac Address and Advance Wireless Settings.
Under Basic wireless settings change the Wireless Network Name(SSID) to something you prefer(this is a must).
For the Radio Band, set to Wide 40Mhz. Wide Channel(9), Standard Channel(11) now click on "Save Settings".
Now got to Wireless Security and for the Mode choose(WPA Personal/PSK Personal) Enter a 8 or more digit password under passphrase and click "Save Settings".

Now your done setting up your wireless router it's now time to connect your desktop wirelessly.

If your using a linksys wireless usb network adapter more or less you have also installed the WLAN Uiltility but personally I use the built in WLAN of XP and Vista.

Using the linksys WLAN Utility for to the Profiles tab and highlight default.
Click Edit and it will provide a list of available network(SSID) that your computer detects.
Select the name(SSID) that you provided the router earlier and click connect.
It will not prompt you to enter the WPA Key also known as passphrase(remember the 8 or more digit password) then click Connect to the Network.

You should now have a valid internet connection wirelessly on your desktop.

Oh and for your 2nd question the answer is No, since you already purchased and installed a wireless usb network adapter for the desktop computer you don't need to purchase a long ethernet cable or move the desktop to where the route is.

Hope this will help you get connected.

Regards

Wireleess router wont work PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You will need to logon the router via the computer, and create a PPPOE internet connection. The user manual that came with the router will show you how to do this. If you do not have the manual. Do the following: open internet explorer in the address window type the IP of the router "example" http://192.168.2.1 your router IP should be on the bottom of the router. If not click start/run, type ipconfig at the > the router ip is listed at "default gateway". once you get to the routers logon page enter one of the following: username "leave blank" - username " admin " -or- username "admin" - password 1234. once logged on the router go to internet connections and select PPPOE enter the username and password provided by your ISP save the settings and you should make the internet connection now. My wireless router wont work

Run a cat5 cable from the laptop to a cat5 port on the router, open internet explorer in the address window type http://192.168.1.1 or what ever the IP address of the router once you have accessed the router create your PPPOE internet connection, enter your Internet Service Provider's username and password. Once you have done this, disconnect the cat5 cable and connect wirelessly to the router from the laptop. If all this fails press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10-15 seconds this will reset the router to factory defaults. connect to the wireless router and create the PPPOE connection.
