I have a Samsung RS2555SW Side by Side Fridge. Recently the cooling side quit cooling and i had the defrost heating unit replaced which had iced up and quit working. That solved a problem for a while. Then the cooling side started freezing everything even though the temp indicated 4 degrees. The thermostat or temp sensor was checked and appeared to be working ok. It stopped freezing and worked ok for a week or so and then started freezing everything again. It stopped freezing things but now appears to have quit cooling (at least it is not as cold as what the temp indicator says). I have not had problems with the freezer side but now the freezer temp is flashing at -21 and it does not feel as cold as it says. The unit is making an abnormal loud buzzing noise and the fan is making quite a noise. It fan noise stops when you open the door. This fridge is only about 8 yrs old.

I removed the panel at the back of the inside wall in the fridge and found the coils there all iced up. The ice build up was causing the noisy fan. This ice build up happened a mth ago when I had a repairman come out when the fridge quit cooling. He replaced the defrost heating unit that runs thru the coils but now I appear to have the same problem all over again. The freezer side appears to be failing as the temp display is flashing and it is not as cold in there as it should be. You mentioned checking the control panel. Where is that?.

Hello,
Your fridge not working is a fridge repair job that you can do without the help of a professional. Often the fridge has a frost-free failure, or the compressor is faulty but there are many other reasons for a fridge not cooling properly.
Step 1 - Find the Problem

Your first job is to locate the source of the problem. Consider each of the following:

* Gaskets - Make sure the gaskets/seals are not torn and are sealing properly.
* Evaporator fan - Make sure it is working. If it is now working you may have a problem with the fan motor. Check for power to the motor and also examine the fan switches around the door (not all fridges have these switches).
* Air damper - Sometimes the air damper will not open up to allow the cold air from the freezer part to blow into the fridge section.
* Condenser coils - Check to see that the condenser coils don't have a dust build-up and that the condenser motor is working.
* Compressor - Make sure your compressor is working with on and off clicking noises.

Step 2 - Frost-Free Failure

This is the most common cooling problem in fridges. Expose the evaporator coils by accessing the panel in the freezer section. The coils in the freezer section can sometimes get clogged up with frost. This can stop the evaporator fan motor from blowing cold air around, or cause the fan to hit it and stop, or become noisy. The defrost timer can be a bit tricky to find but it is usually located behind the back bottom corners of the fridge, although they can sometimes be found in the ceiling of the fresh food section, or behind the cold control cover.
Step 3 - Find the Timer

When you find the timer, turn the wheel-like screw slowly with a screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. The refrigerator is now defrosting. If you find that the fridge starts now, you will need to replace the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer.
Step 4 - Volt Test

If the heaters do not come on, use a volt meter to ohm test the defrost heater or volt test for 120 volts to the heater. You can bypass the defrost thermostat if you haven't got power to the defrost heater to check if the defrost heater will come on. To bypass the thermostat, join the two wires together. Replace the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer if the heater comes on now.

If there is a ticking or squealing noise in the defrost timer, or it seems hot to touch, replace it.

Many fridges have and inline fuse on both sides of the defrost heater. You will need to replace the whole heater if one of those fuses blows. Check these fuses with a volt meter if the defrost heater doesn't work.

A quick check if you have a cooling problem is to inspect the evaporator coils. If there is a build up of white snow on the coils, this indicates a frost free problem; if there is balled ice on part of the coils with the rest bare, this indicates a system problem, like a problem with the pumping compressor.

Hope this help in solving the problem. Take care.....

SOURCE: Freezer ok fridge warm (15 degrees)

You have a hotpoint mistral f/f i take it in silver..

Check to see if the fan is running at the bottom on the back of the fridge its next to the compressor behind the panel ...
if the compressor is running and the fan is not then your fault is the fan..

IF the fan is running then its the sensors...

These are located in the freezer section, pull out the draws and remove the panel behind it.... six screws.......... you will c threes plugs at the top ledt hand side.. the yellow one is for the fridge the green one for the freezer.... replace both if your freezer is not working...

Also just below the freezer door there is a panel remove the panel and use a vaccumm to clean the fluff that has built up on the coils..

hope this helps if you need anymore help dont hesitate to ask...

by the way the sensors are called evap thermistors...

Fridge is not cooling

Check compressor is working. If working check freezer is working. If freezer is working with full of ice, check for auto defrost. If not, manually defrost it. In maximum units the main problem is fridge not cooling but freezer working alright. As over ice formed and covered up fan side (Behind Freezer), there won't be cooling in fridge compartment. Thanks.

Samsung RS2533SW refrigerator is not cooling, freezer is working well. how to fix the problem. don't say unplug, I already tried many times for unplug for 15 seconds, 2 minutes, 2 hrs and overnight. The...

If your seals are good on the door and the fridge side is set for a mid range temp ck and make sure the fan is running in the fzr side. The fridge side steals cold from the freezer by directing air from the fzr to the fridge. Also make sure the fzr does not have an ice block in it the back will be frosted up and if you took the back shell off you would see the cooling coils frosted up real bad or even iced if you find this your refrigerator is going to stop working soon. The suspect parts are the defrost timer the heating element in the freezer located with the cooling coils and the defrost limit this is a nickle size disc with one wire running to the end of the heating element it kicks the element on and off to keep it from overheating the fzr. The defrost timer is usually located in the fridge side under the top or backside plastic it will have a slot in it that a flatblade screwdriver will fit it and you can turn it with audible clicks It kicks the heating element in for a few minutes each day if it quits it will not advance. Hope this helps all of the parts can be purchased and installed by the home owner good luck and remember to unplugg before delving into the elect parts.

My samsung side by side was working great untill

You have an automatic defrost problem. The refrigerator is not defrosting
Three important parts. It probably is one of these.
Defrost Timer
Defrost thermostat
defrost heater.
The fan is probably fine, but has nothing to do with Defrost
Check the heater continuity and change the heater defrost thermostat
then replace timer if those don't solve it.

Samsung fridge RS2630, icing up on freezer and fridge not cooling

Could be the defrost element. If it does not work and melt the ice off of the evaporator, icing will continue and serve as an insulator. Freezer and refrigerator temps will suffer.
If you unplug the unit and let it defrost for a day and plug back in it will work fine till it freezes up again.

FRIDGE AND FREEZER QUIT COOLING

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Back wall of larder freezer icing up - fridgeidare RL 6003 B

located behind the freezer back panel.

The defrost system (AKA evap. system) is composed by an heating coil, a fan , and a defrost thermostat, and its function is avoiding ice formation on coil.
When defrost system is defective the fridge wont cool down properly

In your fridge , either evaporator fan, thermostat or heating element is faulty, and the ice on coils is preventing the appliance from cooling down properly.

Try first a complete defrost, leaving the unit unplugged overnight, if this does not fix the problem, then there is a fault.
