I know how to underline - my problem is that I can't find the keys needed when an underscore is required in an email address, I have asked other
laptop users [no-one with a toshiba unfortunately] with no success.
Any help would be much appreciated.
The key combination can vary depending on what language and keyboard files you're using. However, the easiest way might be to use Windows own Character Mapper to copy the underscore to the clipboard.
Run CHARMAP (in XP, from Start menu -> Run and in Vista from Start button -> start search)
Find the underscore character, and copy it to the clipboard. Go to where you need it and use CTRL-V to paste the copied underscore into wherever it is you need it.

On most keyboards, the underscore is Shift+Hyphen (usually to the right of 0 on the standard keyboard's row above the QWERTY keys). If you want to underline an email address and your email program supports HTML, you can use [email protected] . (You could alternatively make the email address a mail-to link, [email protected] .)
notepad is a simple program, it does not support things like bold, italic, or underline, compose in WORD or some other program then copy and paste from there.
Which program are you using to create the text or document? Microsoft Word?
If you are using microsoft word, wordpad, notepad, microsoft works, etc. if you look at the top of the window usually you will see the letters B, I, U which stand for Bold, Italicize or Underline. You can highlight text that you've already created then select the U to underline the highlited text. Or you can click the U and it will underline everything you type until you click it again.
Hi there,
While composing email in hotmail you can use the toolbar under the subject bar
here you can see the formatting bar, with Fonts>Size>and formatting settings
B>Bold
I> Italic>
U>Underline
so when you press the respective buttons by selecting text it will become underline and you don't need to have underscore for underlining

To underscore, while typing the email, or message on your Nokia E63, press ctrl and list of symbols will appear on your screen. Amongst the symbols, you will find underscore there.
Ctrl is the first key at the right down part of your phone.
There are 3 ways to underline. Backspace and use the underscore key 2 left of the backspace, presscode and the U or I keys. If you are doing these things and underline isn't printing be sure the ribbon is fully latched down.
When ready to hit enter the email address, in either edit or new entry mode, tap the top left button where it indicates "Abc". You will see a screen where choice five is "Symbols". On the first screen of "Symbols" the underscore does not appear. Right arrow your toggle button to the second screen of choices and then toggle down and over to the underscore, then tap, ok. - trevsmom
