Not familiar with an error 400 - and error 40 is an elevation error - it needs to be addressed(fixed) cannot really be reset otherwise. Check connections and fuses first. If it was recently put together, make sure the data cable was not pinched. If it is battery operated, an error 40 can occur when the battery is low.
Precor Error 46, Low Battery Voltage (AMT12 Only)
Probable Cause
1. Blown fuse in the positive battery wire of the AMT12 2. Faulty or poor connection on the battery or LPCA 3. Low or no output voltage from battery
Corrective Action
Remove the power from the unit and move the lift fuse from the in line fuse holder on the positive battery cable
Measure the fuse with an ohm meter (multi meter), the fuse should read approximately 1 ohm or less
If the reading is significantly high, replace the fuse
If the fuse is open, refer to next solution before you continue
Check connector of the battery cable for shorts or poor connections
Enter the diagnostic program per procedure, P80 Settings or Accessing the P30 Diagnostic Software
Using the diagnostic program allows you to test the incline system without continuously pedaling the unit if you have an external power supply
Otherwise, you will need to continue to pedal the unit
Connect a DC voltmeter to the J3 connector on the lower PCA as follows:voltmeter common lead to terminal 3 (black wire) and voltmeter "hot" lead to terminal 2 (red wire)
Using the STRIDE HEIGHT Up and Down keys, operate the incline
The voltmeter should read about +12VDC when the incline is instructed to move upward and about -12VDC when incline is instructed to move downward
If either voltage measurement is significantly low, replace the battery
Drill it down on the left side under "narrow your search" and look for the serial number prefix. This will let you find all the correct parts and information specific to your model and serial number.
Warning Notice for Battery Installation of certain Precor Ellipticals
This notice provides details about the battery replacement procedure that should be considered by anyone performing this repair. Following is the warning about the battery installation for certain models of the Precor ellipticals.
Precor Elliptical Models Affected:
EFX C524 with serial#s beginning I7, K7, LH, SW, SX
EFX C546 with serial#s beginning NF,SZ, IK, IL, IU
When replacing the battery on your Precor elliptical it is important to make sure that the battery terminals are not allowed to make contact with the metal surface of the battery bracket. **Damage to the battery will occur**.
Electrical tape can be wrapped around the battery terminals to prevent them from making contact with the metal surface of the battery bracket.
Battery replacement on the EFX C524, EFX C546, EFX C546i and EFX C556 instructs you to remove the (4) screws that fasten the battery bracket to the frame. This allows you to turn the lower PCA and battery assembly away from the frame so you can slide the battery out of the battery bracket. It may be necessary to remove the nut that fastens the front retaining bracket or "L" bracket in order to slide the battery out of the battery bracket. The ramp system has a battery monitoring system. If the battery voltage falls below 11 Vdc when the ramp movement is initiated or the battery voltage falls below 10 Vdc after ramp movement has been initiated, ramp movement will be stopped and gives that error message. The ramp will not be enabled until such time as the battery voltage exceeds the above limits. The battery voltage must be raised to be to correct this problem either by charging or replacing the battery.
