I ran out of ink in my HP Deskjet F340. I just got a refill kit so I decided to refill and use my own, which I have never done before. Ever since I refilled my own, my printer hasn't printed. I read online that I wasn't supposed to use refilled cartridges so I had a new #21 and #22 on hand which I put in the printer. However, the printer still doesn't print. However, the print head goes back and forth as if it was printing itemed that were waiting to be printed. The printer did print one test page when I first put the new cartidges in.

I cleaned everything with print head cleaner. I inserted new, original, not re-manufactured, cartridges and I left my printer unplugged several times yesterday, as well as all night long. This morning the printer acted like it was printing, but there was no writing.

I can make copies when I scan something, but it won't print when I send word processing from the computer.

Thanks so much. My printer is finally working. I hadn't realized the scanner worked but the data from the computer didn't print until I figured it out. I also didn't realize my printer wasn't hooked up. I had unplugged two cords but forgot and only plugged up one cord. So after a week, my printer now works again (and my many cartridges of ink won't go to waste).

Yes, my computer printer now works. I am so excited. Now I can finish things like taxes, family pictures, etc.

You have used either the wrong type of ink or you refilled the cartridges incorrectly - the result was that the ink spilled over on the cartridge contacts and messed them up.
Take the cartridges out, unplug the printer and using a damp q-tip gently and thoroughly clean all the contacts on the carriage. Then buy a new set of remanufactured cartridges like
http://www.123inkcartridges.ca/hp-ink-cartridges/Deskjet-F340.html
put them in and run several cleaning and alignment tests. That should be enough to fix it.

In that case sorry but the printing heads connectors are fried. This is fixable but it will cost you almost as much as new printer = not worth it. Just junk it and get a new one. .

Please be more specific when you ask. In that case the problem isn't hardware, it's software - the connection to the pc is off.

Unplug the USB cable , uninstall the drivers, reboot the pc twice, install the driver again and when instructed plug in a new USB cable in a new USB socket.

I have a HP 1460 printer & I have now no black ink in my printer.can this printer support any duplicate cartaige(local cartaige)?

No, that printer only uses the 21 Black and 22 color cartridges. The best thing to do when you run out of ink is to buy a refill kit and then refill each cartridge at home. This saves lots of money in the long run. Click on the link below to view a refill kit for your HP D1460:

How do I refill the HP F340 cartridge? Thanks.

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Problem printing photos

When printing a photo make sure that your quality is set on best and not normal.

Also check the ink level on your colour and black cartridges and make sure it is sufficient.

Last but not least if you are using remanufactured or refilled cartridges this is a common problem. The cartridges are not made for the printer or they have been refilled and they now have blocked printheads and the ink is doing interesting things. If you buy a real hp cartridge and it should clear the issue up.
