Click "Start" > "Programs" > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Volume Control." Check to see if the "Mute" box is checked off. Uncheck the mute box if the "Mute" box is muted.
Plug a different audio device into your computer if your speakers are not playing sound. Identify whether the problem is with your original audio device or with your computer. Purchase or replace the original audio device to fix audio on your computer if the sound plays on the second audio device.

Check to see if an updated sound drive is available for your computer. Use Microsoft Update as one method for checking for an updated sound driver. Open Microsoft Update by clicking "Start" and then "Run." Type "dxdiag" and click "OK." Click the "Sound" tab. Click "Name" under "Device" and "Driver" under "Provider." Contact the manufacturer (listed) of your sound driver to request an updated sound driver.
