The waste ink absorber cannot be replaced mate. you have to buy new printer.the waste ink absorber is the sponge part where head cleans all its ink. its a common problem in cannon.
Testimonial: "Thanks Ronil. I had a feeling that this might be the case. Don't know if I'll buy another Canon though - this one has gone through 3 print heads."
If you want to get VERY inky, it is not difficult to get to the ink absorbers and rinse them out. Once the case is off, there are only 4 screws that hold the unit in the case. The absorbers are in the bottom front. They can be rinsed, dried, and replaced. (Though the techs say to buy new ones.) You must also reset the counter after reassembly since the "fullness" has to do with page count, not the actual ink.

When i saw the error message telling me the ink absorber is full, i remove, clean it but it didn't work, the same error message appear again. so better buy a nother printer
Eight flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber for the ink used during Print Head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.
Important
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible
