How do i wire my diehl 880 ? - Diehl TIME CLOCK- 120V 24 HOUR

1 Answer

A

Anonymous

1) Here is Diehl 880 instruction manual

2) Diehl 880 is 120V timer
-1/2 HP
-1000 Watt tungsten. Tungsten means incandescent light bulbs.

3) Checklist:
a) Your load does not exceed capacity > Timer is too lightweight to control 1500 toaster oven.
b) You need 120V line coming from breaker box with black Hot wire and white Neutral
c) You need 120V line going to Load that also has black and white wire
d) Test each black wire to ground to see which black wire is HOT

4) Deihl 880 sell sheet pdf says 880 is available SPST (single pole single throw) -or- SPDT (single pole double throw).
-The difference is pole #4 on the timer.
-If you are trying to turn one circuit off just as another circuit turns on, then you need the SPDT
-If you are turning one circuit on-and off, then the following instructions are for you

how do i wire my - 5609d99.jpg

5) Wire clock
-There are 5 poles > look for markings 1-thru-5
-If no marking, then poles 1&2 are probably spaced apart from other poles
-Connect Hot and Neutral wires to poles 1&2 >> this powers clock motor, they go on either pole

-Pole 4 not used

6) Wire timer
-Poles 3&5 are timer circuits
-Connect Hot line to pole 3
-Connect black wire going to Load to pole 5
-Connect white wire from Load to Neutral

As i saw the timer i wonder what is the use of that adjust around the timer..as i saw the model of the timer

Question doesn't make sense in english.
For foreign translation, you can use google translate.

Deihl analog timer has segments around edge of timer dial.
Segments can be set in or out.
Use finger to set segments one way or the other way.
The dial rotates a full circle each day.
The segments move small switch.
The switch turns light on and off.

Nedd wiring diagram for near future upgrades

You posted under Deihl time clock.

1) Deihl makes 120V and 240V timers with NO and NC terminals.
These timers usually have 5 terminals. Some have 4 terminals.
Facing the terminals, first two terminals on left are for clock motor. Use multimeter set to read 120V and then 240V to check voltage of your clock motor.
Three terminals on right are NO, COM and NC.
Turn power off, pull wires loose and use multi-meter set to Ohms to check continuity of terminals and figure out which terminal is which.

2) Open following links to help identify your manual.

3) Other companies make similar timers, with various wiring, but all can be tested as shown in #1 above.

4) Add a comment and describe your timer and what timer is connected to.
This will give us clearer idea how to answer your question without guessing.

Need wiring diagram SPST power to timer timer to light . two screws marked timer 1 nc 1no 1 com

Here are two possible solutions, since timers are made different ways:

1) Diehl timer has 5 terminals
Drawing below shows wiring for Diehl SPST:
geno_3245_259.jpg

2) Your timer might also be wired as follows:
Two screws marked 'timer' are for 120Volt Hot and Neutral that power the clock motor (in drawing above, these are terminals 1 and 2).
Another Hot wire connects to COM. (in drawing above this hot wire shown connecting to terminal 3)
Load wire connects to terminal NO (in drawing above this wire shown connecting to terminal 4)

3) NO is Normally-Open turns ON when tier turns ON
NC is Normally-closed is ON all the time, EXCEPT when timer turns ON. So NC terminal turns OFF when timer turns ON.
