How do you replace the batteries in James the train?

you need to replace the whistle batteries, i think it takes 3 aaa batteries under the smoke stack

Clean the terminals in the remote and at the end of the battery,also inside the battery compartments that holds the battery in the charger and the the train itself. i hadn't used ours for 10 years and hadn't realised that we had left the battery in the train and the 9v battery in the handset. Tried charging it and nothing, but once i had cleaned all terminals of the green residue that had built up, it charged fine and the train ran for 45 mins before needing a recharge.

if possible try useing some graphite/or dab a qtip in some liquid wrench and carefully touch it up till you feel some movement.

Clicking sound is not a healthy sound, check if any gear wheel is damaged. Is the tray moving up properly? There are a few sensitive parts like the clutch, gears etc. If you cant fix it please call a trained technician, so that damage is minimal.
