I just installed a new dvd rom in my xbox 360 and now the machine will play music cds and dvds but whenever I put a game in it says "to play this cd put it in a xbox 360 consol" I've tried the games in another system and they work good. everything else works good I can go on xbox live and play games no problem but not a cd game.
You have to connect the old drive to a pc and retrieve the drive key to transfer to the new dvd rom or it will not work

You probably didn't flash the drive correctly. you can find guids how to online. its a pretty in depth process though.

The laser going bad is a pretty common issue with the drives, since it's a Hitachi that spindle motor could be all gunked up with dirt as well and cause that issue also.
if ya have a Hitachi, if it's a Samsung it could just be the laser.

DVD wont close
I just solved this problem, very simple actually. Possibly can happen when the drive WILL close, but then loud noise as it tries to spin the disc up. Open the drive up (4 little screws on the bottom) and lift the lid up. If you look on the top white magnet spinner, the bottom side of the magnet system broke off of the disc motor. It will look like a little metal ring stuck to the white spinner thing whatever it's called. I popped that off and examined it, then used some krazy glue to stick it back on the motor spindle and it's away and going now. The reason the drive will not close, is because when the little magnet first breaks off it can get misaligned then when it tries to shut it gets in the way. The MAY be the cause to the problem. I fixed this issue today with mine, hitachi drive.
