I was watching TV and suddenly the screen went black. No picture, no sound. On/off timer LED on TV started blinking. I could not turn it on (or off) with remote or ON switch on TV. I found that if I unplug and plug power cord TV comes on for a couple of seconds (I can hear the sound immediately and picture starts to come on) but it TV screen goes black in a couple of seconds, no sound, and on/off timer LED blinks. Basically, TV is ON, but I cannot do anything with remote or manual buttons on TV unless I plug and unplug the power cord in which case TV comes on for few seconds before ON/OFF timer LED comes on. I found that during those two seconds if I push power swich on TV it shuts off TV and on/off timer stops blinking. Now I can turn TV ON with my remote. But as soon as I turn it on, TV shuts off in a couple of seconds and you know rest of the story. I never moved this set since I bought this TV few years ago! I always had a surge protector. What do you suggest to repair?

Would you know the range of cost of repair, or should I just junk it and look for new one? If it costs $250 to repair, I can get new one for probably $450 for 37 inch flat panel with about the same viewing area. Could it be just resetting the TV and can be fixed without hardware fix? CRT TVs are reset by unplugging them for 3 hours. There usually isn't a way to reset them. However you would know that for certain with the CD Rom. If there is a reset according to the CD Rom and it doesn't work than the cost of repair would most likely exceed $250. CRT TVs are reset by unplugging them for 3 hours.
