Trying to access files on DS-4000 recorder. Recorder has a lock icon on the display but lock feature in menu options will not remove. Files are inaccessable and say they are corrupt when trying to access via programs. If I try to play from recorder it will only play the first 8 seconds of each file.

The lock function can be found in the menu, however if you did not go there to lock the files, chances are your memory is corrupted. You can reformat the memory from the menu but this will wipe out any recordings. If you need to recover the files, try PC Inspector, Smart recovery. This is a free download, just search google.
You need to erase some files. If there are no files, the memory may be corrupted. From the menu go to sub menu, then format. This will clear the memory.

You may need to format the recorder to clean the file system on the recorder. Follow the directions below to format: If you format the recorder, all function settings will return to their defaults*. All files** stored in the recorder will be deleted. If you have important files that you want to save, connect the recorder to a computer and transfer those files from the recorder to the computer before formatting the device. * Date and time settings won't be cleared, so you won't need to set them again.
** Locked files will also be deleted.

Make sure all the files from the memory card have been downloaded and saved to the computer. You are going to need to format the memory card to remove the write protect/read only/lock issue. By formatting this will permanently erase all data from the memory card so you are able to use it again.
To format the card: go to Menu - to Submenu - to Format option - Start - then Start again - Press Menu to initiate the process - When done the recorder will be able to be used for recording purposes again.
The folder lock can oly be solved by chosing the option "format" in the sub-menu. But please copy the *.dss - files still resting at your card at your harddisk first.
When the recorder finishes the format procedure, all folders will be unlocked again.
The "Read-Only-Failure" will occur again at recorders with differend user profiles, when you put the switched-off recorder into the docking station first and switch the power button to "on". So avoid this constellation!

Had same problem. Found online handbook for DS-4000 and page 37 pointed way.
Press menu button on the handset.Go to sub menu. Page 37 of online handbook suggests you can lock and unlock from this but I used the format icon on the submenu to reformat the card. Seems to be working fine now.
