Door seal fitting for front loading washing machine.

Hi. Just got a new door seal for our Hotpoint WF541P front loader washing machine and I'm not quite sure how to fir the new seal. The old on is in the bin as it's shot so I need some guidance. If we can avoid having to pay out for a visit it would be good.
Hope you can help

Hi Ginko, thanks for that. There seems to be 2 spring metal rings, one has some plastic moulding around it and the other is just bare metal. The bare metal one I see fits at the front to hold the seal to the front panel that the door fits against, the other, with the plastic around it, fits to hold the seal next to the drum and seems to need to go inside a fold in the seal. This is the bit I don't really understand as to how it fits and how you get it back in. I've fitted the seal to the front of the machine but haven't got the seal fitted to the drum housing inside yet, could you explain how the seal and retaining metal ring fit together so I can get it back on the drum housing?

1) remove the tension ring under the rim of the seal at the front
2) flip the whole seal into the drum so that you can get at the inside of the seal
3) remove the tension ring hold the seal to the outer tub
4) reverse of the process to put in the new seal

However, I do recommend calling a reapir guy. It may cost you a bit more, but it is worth it as that will ensure a correct replacement of the seal.

You need to remove old door gasket and fit a new one

  • Ginko
    Ginko May 24, 2008

Start by unplugging the machine, and removing the lid.
    Then open the washing machine
door and remove the two retaining screws which hold the door lock
    receptor.
Now remove the soap draw, there should be 4 screws that need to
    be removed.
The front top panel should then hinge off to the right, if
you have dials I think you will need to remove them.
    Then you'll see 3
screws at the top of the pressed steel panel which will also need to be
removed. Word of caution leave the middle one in for the time being.
Finally there are 2 or3 more screws behind the bottom plastic kick
panel. This panel needs to be gently prized off from the bottom. Remove
the exposed screws and the middle screw from the top of the pressed
steel panel. You can now see the drum housing. Remove support bar
across the front of the drum. The drum housing is held together with
sprung steel clips which prize off again.
To fit the new one is the reverse of what you have done.

I will see if I can find some illustrated guide on the web, and eventually post it here.

Here is a website describing same procedure, no pictures unfortunately.
Here you find Hotpoint spare parts.
Here you will find parts and exploded view , which may help.

Change door seal

For most front-loaders:
Lubricate the slot which fits over the tub with washing-up fluid. Starting at the top, press the seal so the flange of the tub enters the slot on the seal. Work your way round the using thumbs to force the slot on the tub flange. When slot is on the flange all way round, fit the spring which holds it on. The spring goes into a slot on the outside of the seal. This is quite difficult and you may need another pair of hands. Fit the outside of the seal to the cabinet - this is easy and fit the plastic clamping ring.
Test for leaks before using. Use rinse to test as the water level is higher.
(There is no glue anywhere, only clamps, etc)
