Steam got into key pay. Sometimes it will dry out. Take key pad apart and try to dry with a hair dryer, not to hot, you just want to blow condensation out of it. If this does not work, key pad needs to be replaced. The problem is they cost as much as a new microwave.

Is it hard to do? Same thing happened to my Panasonic model (NNS-760WA). Thanks

  • Anonymous Sep 29, 2010

Not hard to replace. Remove top, screws are on the top, then remove screws for keypad. It just unplugs. Parts are available at www.appliancepartspros.com good pricing compared to other places I have purchased parts from. Good luck. This will happen again due to steam, I called company and they have no solution to the problem. My GE has lost the clock set, and the #7. I refuse to pay $146 for a replacement board or $96 for the keypad. When a New microwave cost $199 at lowes. Frank

Hotpoint microwave key pad parcially not working

The pads actually share some of the same lines inside the touch pad. There are silver oxide traces inside there. If a trace inside breaks, it depends on which trace breaks as to what pads dont work. If a trace that is common to say pads 1,3,5,7 you would lose function of those pads. 1.....2.....3.....4......5....... it is sort of set up like that inside wher eone connects to another and so on. So lets say a line between 2 and 3 breaks then you would lose pads 3, 4, 5 and any others on that same line. Will have to replace touch pad, cannot repair.

Only certain buttons of microwave oven touch pad work.

Hi, welcome to Fixya!

From your question, I suspect the fault is from the control board of the microwave. This is why some buttons on the the touch-pad are not working.

Have the control board replaced and the buttons that refuse to work will start working again.

I hope the above is clear. If not, please let me know.

Regards.

Main board

Not likely it's the touch buttons wearing out you can buy the tocuh pad and replace it it's not that expensive, go to www.appliancepros.com and find your model and look at the parts list and find your part, they have a break down of the parts assembly.

Ge microwave HVM1540DN1BB button control pad stopped working

I am not familiar with the Whirlpool microwaves; however, I just had the same problem with an LG over the range microwave. Several of the positions on the touchpad quit responding to touch. In our case, it was the touchpad itself that was the problem.

The touchpad on our microwave was held in place with adhesive. We pulled it off and replaced it with a new touchpad. Everything works now. The only complication is getting to the connector which carries the signals from the touchpad to the microwave controls. We had to remove and dissassemble the door to get to that connector.

The touchpad cost about $26.00.

Night Light

Your Control Key Pad is a circuit with each function and button a switch. The pad on your TV Remote, and Telephone is no different. The Key Pad is failing, It will only get worse. Determine if you can replace the Touch (Key) Pad. Not the Control Circuit, just the Touch Pad. Sometimes you can get it seperate. It connects by a Flex Cable to the Control Circuit.
