I have an Olympus VN-6200PC voice recorder that won't allow me to record, although it will play back all the files (locked) that I've already recorded. Whenever I attempt to record, it says "INPUT BLOCKED". It's not a problem of memory, because according to the recorder I have 49 hours-plus remaining. What can I do?

Yes, I believe the whole device IS locked because even the new, yet-to-be recorded files are showing up with a little lock icon. I might have unwittingly locked it. But wouldn't locking prevent playback also? You could be on the right track.

The only menu option I cannot access is the LOCK option. When I press the PLAY/OK button on LOCK, I get the same message as I do when I press record: "INPUT BLOCKED". I've switched off the device several times and I've also changed the batteries - nothing helps.

Yup, hold switch makes absolutely no difference. Input still blocked for those two actions only: Recording, and accessing the LOCK option in the submenu.

Well... it got me to the point of realizing that something may be wrong with the hardware, so yes, it was helpful although it didn't solve my problem.

I have the same problem; it says "INPUT BLOCKED". Is there anything I can do to unblock it???

Are you trying to record while it is "locked"? I believe you can lock the whole device so you can't accidentally press a button. Are you familiar with this? Let me know if you need help figuring out if it's locked or not, I am trying to research this now.

Hmm, not necessarily, usually locking is referring to recording, so you don't accidentally start recording when you don't want. There is a MENU button on the device, at the bottom of it, right hand side as you look at it. Go into the MENU and look for anything regarding LOCK or LOCKING, it's definitely in there. Try turning it OFF and see if that lets you record again.

What about the hold switch on the side of the device? It's a little switch that slides up and down on the top left of the device, on the side... Try moving that into different positions, still input blocked?

Very strange indeed, those are the only two things that could block input on this device. I think the hardware is actually malfunctioning. At this point I recommend you actually contact Olympus' special department for these devices to see if there is any "hidden" modes for this device that noone is aware of, and if not, ask them what you can do with the device. Their number is 1-888-553-4448

Let me know what turns up

First, allow me to make this perfectly clear; the solution to the
"INPUT BLOCKED" is *NOT* mine but that of Moderator "BabsOne"! And *YESyesYES* it works. Here's what you have to do:
The voice recorder is in read only status - you will need to format the device to remove the lock (read only). Go to menu - to submenu and then run the format option. make sure all filesI have an Olympus VN-6200PC - icon1.png have been downloaded as once device is formatted all files will be permanently deleted.

Is the vn6000 or vn 6200 compatible with windows 7 ?

The Olympus VN-6000 will likely not have a PC/Mac USB connector cable, so, if you want to transfer files to your computer you would be better off looking at the Olympus VN-6200PC.

Olympus VN-480 digtial recorder - can't get my files to play back

if the power is interupted or improperly unplugged from the computer, the files may be corrupted... try to play the files and while playing move them to another folder... this may get your files back... else you will need to clear the recorder by pressing stop and erase at the same time for about 3 seconds.
