Well in this case its not recognizing the cartridge. questions to think about. is it a cartridge that has been refilled, if so I will say it is defective and where you bought it needs to make good on it.check the electronic tab at the front of the cartridge that hits the sensor in the slot is it creased or dirty. has it been left out long, they do dry out at the front. no in a rare case it may be an eelectronic prob and in that case according to the model # I think you should be still in warranty. try another cartridge if you have one

If all else fails try this it might be a factory defect
Use 1-800-822-8965 and drill down to where it asks for your express service code (on the tag under the cartridge cover ) for your printer

if this helped please spare a moment and rate the service so we can better help you in future

Cartridge error can mean several things.

You have a cartridge in the wrong spot (black in the color area and vice versa)

The cartridge is not pushed in all the way

The cartridge is recycled or refilled and the computer chip will not acknowledge it is full (mostly HP problem) because they dont want you to use refilled products (it voids your warranty with HP)

The printer cartridge is bad and/or has a bad connection

You have installed the wrong model printer cartridge

These are the only things that would cause a cartridge error.

I have error code 0xc05d1281 what does this mean?

This error means "Ink System Failure"
And it means that something went wrong in the ink manager internal printer software.
Try removing all the ink cartridges and then power off and on again the printer
If it asks for inserting the cartridges insert them one by one and see if the error appears, in that case the thing that provoke that error is that specific ink cartridge.
So change the specified ink cartridge.

If you didn't solve with this procedure maybe the printhead failed to do a specified operation, or anyway the printer have a specific error on the mainboard and need assistance

Let me know ;)

My printer is reading error E5... what does this mean?

E5 means your cartridge error. May I know are you using original ink cartridge or yours has been modified before?
I assume you to refill your ink cartridge before because E5 error won't appear after replacing new cartridge.
So, you need to take out both of your ink cartridge and then use a clean cloth to wipe them. After that, slowly put in back into the printer. If the error is still there after wiping it, try to do it till the error is gone.
I had tested this way with my own printer and it works again without needed to buy a new ink cartridge.
All the best and good luck =)

Error 5 on printer. What does that mean?

Error 5 usually means the Cartridge print counter has run out, and now the cartridge needs to be replaced. Make sure you purchase a New, Retail cartridge to replace your current cartridge. Some aftermarket, refilled cartridges do not come with their counter reset, and will come up with this error.

What does the cartridge error code 50c mean and how do I fix my printer?

The error indicates that your print cartridge has shorted. Check which cartridge is causing the error. Remove both cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug and replug your Lexmark printer to the power source. When the printer turns on, install one cartridge first and close the cover. If no error appears, insert the other cartridge. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the problem. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Printer says cartridge error: error 1203

Remove both ink cartridges and check the bottoms to be sure all of the tap is removed. Small pieces of tape frequently are stuck to the cartridge bottom causing errors. Confirm you have the correct cartridges (# 34 for Black(HIGHYIELD) and #33 for color). Reseat the cartridges and try again.

LaserJet 2840 Printer: I am trying to initialize a new drum. An error mes...

This means that the printer cannot read the E-Label on the cartridge, or it is not properly installed.

  1. Reinstalle the cartridge
  2. Power cycle the device
  3. If the problem is not solved, replace the cartridge. (Is the cartridge a remanufactured one? this can be a problem)
  4. Check if correct cartridge type.

Says cartridge error 50C, see manual but i can't fix it

The error basically seems to mean that one or both of the cartridges is defective. It had me take out one cartridge and see if the error happens again.

I had both cartridges in and I got the error message2.gif. I took out the color cartridge and the error message went away. I put the color one back in and I got the error message again.

I replaced the cartridge and everything works fine.
