Turns on but nothing else

I just bought this right before I deployed. I backed up my lap top on this right before I came out here and now I cant get it to work. I plug in the power cord and the light blinks but I can't get it to show up on the computer at being plugged in. I know its not the computer because my friend 250 gb external hard drive works! What am I doing wrong?

I dropped mine. It wasn't a large fall, only about 1 and 1/4 feet and onto a carpet floor, but now it isn't recognized by my computer. the remove safely icon appears, but it doesn't show up in my computer. If I remove the cord, it makes a humming noise, then beeps. I am worried because it has my family's entire album of pictures and there are no other copies. Please help.

I tried my drive on another computer, swapped out cables..no good. Then tried another day, all worked well and I transfered a lot of files. Had to turn computer on and off because of ^&*&^! updates and when everything came back on, the drive does not come up under the computer. Have tried all USB ports and turning on and off.

I have the same problem with mine. The light shows up in front. It will not let me access it with any of my computers. I have changed out the USB cord 3 times and still will not show up on the computer.

I have been using this hard disk for about 6 months now. It stopped working. The power and the usb cable are connected. I use Windows Xp and it doesnt read it. And for some reason most of the time when i open 'my computer' and the hard disk usb cable is plugged in 'my computer' stops responding !! However the 'safely remove disk' icon comes on the task bar and i can remove it from there. But i cant read it from explorer. The light on the HD keeps blinking. It reads my friends HD and flash drive. Please help me.

Hello my toshiba satellite c650 lap top turns on and then the screen goes black with a - on the top left hand corner and cant do anything so i wait and nothing happens how do i fix it

I cant help you resolve your problem but i have the same problem with my Toshiba but when the screen goes black i get a high pitched buzzing and i cant do anything but turn it off. I was replying because if you got a solution to why yours was doing this would be great if you could help me out..Thanks Tanya x

My lap top keep shutting down , right after i turn it on.It shows no picture , nothing just make a beeping noice if i try to press on any key and turns right back off and then turns itself on. I want to...

My Gateway shuts off, I don't think it has to do with the power

You are infected with a virus or something. Try re-installing the OS and see if this eliminates the problem. If it doesn't help then you have something physically defective.

I bought my 5535 yesterday and had exactly the same problems with it. going to take it back today and buy something else, it's cutting off every 15 minutes. very irritating. i thought it was overheating on my lap so i used it on the table just to get the same results. Notebook Power on. Plugged into mains power. All indicator lights on. Cannot get the screen to open. power switch doing nothing. I bought this lap top yesterday.

take it back and tell them what the problem is. if it is under warrenty they have to fix it
