My canon Digital IXUS 8015 says card locked when I try to take a picture. I can access photos taken last month on the same card Today when I tried to take a photo the camera beeped and displayed to following message "card locked". I removed to 4GB card and checked the tab was set to unlock. This did not rectify the problem. The card will work in another camera. Any suggestions?.

Your camera uses SD memory cards. On one edge is a slider switch: towards the electrical contacts is the unlocked position and away from them is locked.

Unfortunately, the switch is easy to move accidentally and it's also easy for it to appear to be unlocked when it isn't. Like any mechanical component it's also possible for the switch to fail.

If the switch is in the locked position then slide it fully to the unlocked position; if it's already in the unlocked position, slide it fully to the locked position and then fully back again. There should be a soft click at each end of the switch travel, if not then the switch is definitely faulty or obstructed.

If that fails, then try looking closely at the switch in both positions to ensure that there is no debris obstructing its movement, if not then check the electrical contacts to ensure that they're completely clean and grease-free. Don't touch the contacts with your bare skin, but if the contacts need cleaning then a cotton bud (Q-tip) moistened with a little alcohol or methylated spirits can be used to clean them.

If you still have no fix, then try a different SD card as yours may have an irreparable faulty switch. If the card does prove to be faulty then on most major brands you may be able to return them to the manufacturer for exchange: I've found that they will often do this on a goodwill basis even if the card is out of warranty.

If all options regarding the memory card are unsuccessful, then you have a faulty camera and further remedies require either a professional repair or replacement of the camera.

I hope that my answer has been of use and has given you additional options to fix your problem. Please take a moment to rate my reply.

Does your card have a slide switch on the side? Move it to the unlocked position.

How can I download video from my Canon IXUS 8015 to my Mac? The photographs download fine, just not the video. Thank you!

Try using iMovie. iPhoto and some other photo cataloging programs are great at dealing with photos but they don't do videos. That's what iMovie is for.

How to load canon ixus 8015 onto my Mac

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

I have an issue with my cannon camera. I just came from holidays and took over 500 photos on my ''Canon IXUS 960''. When i connected it to my pc to see all my pictures but i got an error message saying...

you should try some photo recovery software, here are some programs you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Note: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the camera memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

How to upload photos from canon IXUS 8015 I have plugged in the A/V out via a cable into the USB input of the computer. How do I upload the photos onto the computer?

You just need to open the drive letter associated with your camera. Double click your My Computer and it will show you the drive. Open that drive and you should see the subdirectory where you pictures might be located. Just click and drag those pictures on your computer's local drive. Or right click, choose copy and go to your desktop for example and then paste.

I have the same problem w/ my canon ixus 100IS.UNIDENTIFIED IMaGE

Try using a card reader to download your pics. Also, go to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. You should be able to see all of your pics and print them or even make a cd of them.
