Mike, in Washington D.C., again. Of course you can do it yourself. First call Joel (Malber in NY) at 800-600-8913 or 516-294-6660 . Tell him which model machine you need a door latch for (if you aren't sure, check label in rear). Once you've received your new latch assy (about $20): Open door, and notice white plastic "ring" around glass is actually 2 pieces (front and rear) snapped together - with a seam around periphery. Unsnap (separate) them by either getting your fingernails into the seam and pulling them apart - or prying them open with a spackle knife or thin screwdriver blade. Once it starts coming apart, just work the opening all the way around. Remove front "ring" and set aside. Using a 1.5mm Torx screwdriver, remove 2 small screws holding broken latch assy. Note the way the ends of the spring go under the 2 screws. That's the way it has to go back. Slip new latch assy into place, pressing vertical "hinge pin" and ends of spring into slots (near screw holes). Replace 2 screws. Test latch with door open - is it working? Try closing door. All good? Replace front "ring": Open door and, while pulling out on latch handle, slip the ring over the latch handle and get it into approximate position. Let go of latch (it snaps into "closed" position) and adjust ring so it doesn't bind the latch handle (meaning it's free to move). Now, beginning anywhere on outside edge, begin snapping rings together - and continue all the way around. Test that door latch still operates smoothly and that door latches shut properly. FYI: There is no adjustment for this latch assy - it just fits precisely where it's supposed to. Good luck and God Bless ...

Thank you so much for the clear instructions. I ordered the part from the number you mentioned; they were terrific and the part arrived on the day they said it would! Thanks to your instructions, it only toook me a few minutes to remove the ring, remove the broken handle, insert the new one, and replace the ring. Amazing easy, once you know how! Thank you very much!

I suggest you try one of those instant download manuals. My nephew bought one for me when my car broke and we could fix it all by ourselves with the manual at www.reliable-store.com . This website is very good for this.

?Try it.

Malber washer dryer 800 handle broke. cant open door

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
As the handle will have to be replaced I would suggest calling for a service engineer is the only option ;-0(
You will either have to search in telephone directories OR stay on line and search for '(make) washer service' for instance or '(make) washer spares' and hope that you can find someone reasonably local.
Sorry and good luck.

Handle broke off, model # khhs179Lss-4, wna to

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.
If you have not purchased a new door handle yet, the part number is 8205431 (White), 8205433 (Black), 8205432 (Biscuit) or 8185456 (Stainless). A new one can be purchased at pcappliancerepair.com for about $40-46. Make sure you order using the correct part number to ensure you get the right color.

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, simply open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Some doors have a small hinge pin that has to be removed in order to remove the door.
