SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Usually, you must get rid of the pics in the internal memory in order for the card to work.With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. Then, your card should work.

When useing under water the shutter was so slow, when frameing a shot of a fish. By the time the shutter operated the fish was gone. can we lock the focus so it takes the picture quicker.

By pressing the shutter button half-way until the camera "beeps", you lock in the focus. However, underwater in a waterproof housing, I'm not sure you can hear the beep.
