So if I got a new bigger drive.. say 30 Gigs could I make a strict copy of the C drive now over to this new drive? then set that drive as the servers boot drive? and I also have no idea what kind of hard drives are compatible with this computer. I need help figuring that out and if there is any other parts needed.
thanks!
You can use Norton Ghost to copy your current hard drive to the new one. And when you boot the new drive, the only difference you will see is more hard drive space.
As for interfacing, since you say the drive in there already is a 30 GB, it is most likely an IDE connection. This can be identified by a ribbon cable about two inches wide running to the drive.
Ah. Sorry, I misread the original problem. You will need to be careful when you buy the new drive, SCSI has multiple interfaces that use different connectors. If you can get the service tag off of the system, I can look up the specs for you. Or you can go to dell.com and use the "Drivers and Downloads" section to find the specs for the hard drive. But the drive interface in there now should be an 80 pin SCSI Ultra 160. The drive might actually tell you, now that I think of it. Check that out, it may help.

actually the C drive in there right now is a 4 gig drive. It is soo fragmented because it is full, thats why I am looking into moving all of that information onto a bigger drive. I ran a belarc PC Audit on the system and it says the drive in there right now is a "Dell Container SCSI Disk Device" there is also a D drive which stores some data for software that is used here at the office. so that leaves 4 slots left on the machine. (there are 6 tottal) Ive searched google for SCSI drives and am ready to buy one, just wana make sure that any SCSI would be computable and if it will need any type of bracket to fit into the slot. here is a picture of a server just like ours...

test
The service Tag is fx5yv01
looks like I also may have the option to bypass the SCSI and just connect it to a serial ATA ribbon cord inside the case? possibly?
