Water is dripping from the vent at the top of the refrigerator. The refrigerator is a Maytag top mount, model no. MTB1956GE.

Soap and water is fine, it goes under the pan to keep vibration down...

Can you feel air moving or hear the fan running in the freezer section? You said the freezer section is freezing well, but is it freezing really hard?

The cause of that drip is going to be a blocked defrost drain in the freezer and the water from the defrost is pooling up in the freezer then when it can't hold anymore it's dripping through the vent in the ceiling of the refrigerator onto the shelfs. By removing the back wall of the freezer you could find the drain on the bottom of the freezer coil. By GENTLY peircing that frozen drain at a 45 degree angle until a small hole is formed in the built up ice it could be totally flushed using warm water once a small opening is made in the ice in the drain.

Hello,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

The problem is the drain is clogged. Remove the back panel in your freezer and at the bottom of the evaporator coil you will see a hole about ½” in diameter this is the drain tube. You might need to use some warm water to melt the ice and then run a wire being very careful not to puncture the hose and run it down the tube to free up the drain. This tube travel down to the bottom of your refrigerator to a pan sometimes located on top of the compressor or somewhere else down there. It collects the water there to evaporate. You need to remove the freezer floor.

if freezer is on top what is happening is your drain hole behind freezer panel is clogged

that usually indicates a plugged drain....the fan picks up the moisture from the bottom of the freezer when it defrosts and blows it through the vents
