What equipment do I need?

I currently have dsl with two computers connected to the modem. The modem (2wire Homeportal 1000) has one USB port and one ethernet port. I want to add my sons Xbox 360 to the network so that he can go online. I've been told that wireless is too slow for gaming. What equipment do I need to do this. Both of the computers and the Xbox are in the same room.

Here you go, the short answer. Just a simple re-wire and reconfigure (see attachment).

For the hub I recommend one of these (I have one and it's pretty much plug in play):

We have 2 desktop pc's. One in one room and the other in another room on the far side of the house. Both are connected to the same telephone line. The 2wire homeportal 100 hg died and I went to Radio Shack...

well in a hard spot if your using dialup as means of connecting to the internet then only one PC at a time can use dialup connections now if say it was a DSL modem then from the DSL modem or DSL Router Modem you would need RJ-45 cables from the DSL router modem to the two PCs

My friends computer died and needs to setup her new computer to manage the Homeportal 1000hw. Is the software/drivers available on the web?

Try the following link:

If your HomePortal is still configured to defaults try to use the web base interface.

Dsl light flashes red constantly

Whenever your dsl light on the 2wire modem turns red,it only means that there is a problem with the dsl connection to the modem. Here are some ways on how you can isolate the problem

1. check if your modem is properly connected to the phone jack by unplugging and replugging you phone cable
2. try to reboot the modem
3. if still getting the same lights, contact your ISP

Power light on what? If the modem, then you need to make sure the wall outlet has power first.. then work your way towards the modem and ensure that power is actually being delivered to the device..
