It trhinks that there is always a set of headphones plugged into the side jack, despite there not being any headphones in it. I have turned it on and off 4 or 5 times and I have done a master reset of the settings, yet the problem still seems to be there.

If the sound works on your Kindle Fire's speakers and will not cut off and reroute sound to headphones when you plug them in to the headphone jack port on the side of the Kindle. Try the following:
If you have a set of blu tooth headphones then enable blu tooth connection to a source of sound like, You Tube, Spotify iTunes etc. You will be able to hear sound on your blu tooth headphones this way. Turn of the blu tooth headphones, then try plugging in your regular wired headphones into the Kindle and reconnection should be achieved.
The first thing to try is to see if the volume somehow managed to get set on zero.
Secondly try it another pair of headphones . The jack should be a 3.5mm stereo. When you buy the replacement take your player and see it fits. You will need a soldering iron to fit the new jack. Soldering experience is useful here. Mini jacks are fiddly. Replacing the jack is not a guaranteed fix. Remember to put the jack cover on the wire before you start soldering.
I wish you success, there is some satisfaction to not having to buy a new set of headphones but it's always a last resort.
Most speakers come with a small 3.5 inch stereo jack that is typically green, but not always.
This connects to the headphone jack on the laptop. look for headphone jack on the sides or front of the laptop, this is where you plug the speakers jack, its often green too. red is for a mic.
hope that helps .
Cheers
go to your remote contol ( menu )
then you go to the option set up.
then you go to headphones and you can set the volume louder.
You will see that it works fine.

I have seen this many times and found bad solder joints on the motherboard on the bottom side of the headphone jack. I have also seen the plug coming from the speakers to the motherboard lose. If you feel this is too much for you to handle then you need to go to a PC shop or a friend that can solder PC boards. Good luck! Phil
You are on the wrong website for this type of inquiry. This is a self help website for the repair and use of manufactured products made for consumer use
My best Guess on your problem, is something has contaminated your headphone jack. I say this because it is the common factor between headphones and the Movie Dock. Both devices plug in to the headphone jack. You might get lucky and see something obvious in the headphone jack that is easy to clear up. Replacing the headphone jack in the PSP should be done by a knowledgeable technician. If you have your Receipt and the Warranty sticker under the battery remains intact. you can call Sony at 1 800 345 7669 to set up a repair. They may even have something they will do if you do not have a receipt. But I believe they always rely on the Warranty Sticker and Moisture Indicator for eligibility for exchange. If you want to keep the same PSP, I run the Playstation Clinic In South Carolina. Check out www.playstationclinic.com , and we can do it for under $40 total.
