I have washed and rewashed my dishes with no soap and my glasses have a horrible white film and any of my plastics now have white film almost as if the soap is not rinsing off. I have resorted to hand washing and some of the glasses seem to be etched with this white residue....difficult to remove. Please help! I have read possible heating element problems but I just ran the dishes thru a wash cycle with no soap and when I opened the door the heating element seems to be functioning fine -- all the dishes were hot! We bought the dishwasher in 2002.

Hi,
Add glass Magic or Lemon Shine to the soap in the door for every load, this will impress you. You will not have to rewash again. It only takes 2 tablespoon on top of the soap in the door.
I find Lemon Shine at Target, under four dollars and works great.
You have nothing to loose.....

Glasses have a white, chalky film around the top of glasses

This due in part with the government mandate to remove phosphates from detergent.
Several things can be done to improve the clean appearance of your dishes.
1. Start a wash cycle with no dishes and no soap. Once the wash cycle has stated and water is circulating, open the door and pour in one quart of white vinegar and resume the wash cycle.
2. Use a detergent named FINISH.
3. Use only the recommended amount of detergent.
4. Periodically use a product named LemiShine.
Taking these steps will improve the quality and appearance of the dishes.
On a final note: too hot water temperature can cause etching in glasses and only a lower water temp will prevent new glasses from etching.

Cloudy film left on all dishes and glasses. How do I remove the film?

Buy a gallon of white vinegar and rewash your dishes this time add 1/4 of a gallon of vinegar in the water with no soap just vinegar and water.... Also check and see if the dishwasher is completely draining you may have another problem that the dishwasher is not completely draining and you are washing with dirty water...... check the screen in the bottom of the dishwasher and the spray arm to see if they are clean and open...... I have used vinegar in my dishwasher and it has taken the cloudy film off... You may have to add it a couple of more times if you have a real bad build up......
I also use cascade complete dishwashing soap and has helped the problem with the cloudy film.

That sounds more like a problem with your soap not disolving completly. Try these few simple things. First, run your hot tap at your sink until it gets hot, then start your dishwasher. What this will do is ensure that your "prewash" is using hot water.

The next thing, is you want to select the "heated wash" or "hi temp wash" option with a "normal wash" cycle. What the heated wash will do is ensure that during the main wash the water gets boosted to 140 degrees wich is the temperature that your soap breaks down at.

White film left on dishes is a classic indication that the soap has not disolved or broken down completly.
