Eill the setings mater even if they have an xp?
Hey - go back to your command prompt and type this:
ipconfig /release there's a space between the g and the /
then type: ipconfig /renew same space betwen the g and the /
After you're done you can do a ipconfig and see if the numbers aew different from last time. If they are give it a try.
That wasn't supposed to be a solution so please don't rate. Just pushed the wrong key.
Sorry lovex....Been ill, still am. Just logged on for you. If you still need help. Try these:
Go Start>control panel>setup and maintenance>device manager. Click on the + next to network adapters. There should be two listed. Your wired and your wireless. There should be no yellow exclamation points or red marks. Let me know if there are. Close that.
In your search box type " control panel ". Then go to Check this computers security status. Turn off your firewall if it's on.
Go back to your search box and type " ncpa.cpl " When you get there, you can right click on those extra adapters #6,9,12,13, etc however many you have like that and click on uninstall. Then reboot and see what happens. If it doesn't work, go to your search box and it should still have ncpa.cpl as an option or you can type it. Right click on your ethernwt connection and click on repair. Then try it. Let me know. Again sorry. Gotta lay down but I'll be watching my mail.
Also, make sure these are set:
Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.
Right-click the connection that you want to change, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, click either Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click Properties.
To specify IPv4 IP address settings, do one of the following:
To obtain IP settings automatically, click Obtain an IP address automatically, and then click OK.
To obtain a DNS server address automatically, click Obtain DNS server address automatically, and then click OK.
OK. Check your settings against those of your parents for your ethernet. I think that all the options you need to check have been listed in my comments. Make sure all the settings are the same. If they're running XP some of the settings won't be in there but check the ones that are like obtain IP address automatically, obtain DNS Server automatically and so forth. If one of them are running XP, do this: On there machine with XP go to start>run and type "cmd" without the quotes and then hit ok. It will take to a C:>prompt. Type ipconfig and you'll get four lines of numbers. Write them all down. Let me know what those numbers are. Please type them because the last set was sorta hard to read.
We're gonna fix this thing. There's something simple and I'v having a brain cramp. You can get to your side of the network but no further. Do these things please before you give up on me and let me know the results. Thanks.
Also, what's the model # of your router and what's the Revision level? It should tell either on the back or the bottom. It will look like Rev C. While you're at it you might as well tell me what version of firmware it has. It probably will just say F/W 1.2 or whatever it is. All the info will be on one tag. Thanks.

It still is a stubborn laptop and doesn’t wont to connect
I have no idea how you got that info. Here's what I want you to do and the results I expect.
Go to the start menu and type command in the box. Then right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator. If a User Account Control window pops up, click Continue.
This is something like you should see. Give me these results as they appear on your screen. Here is an example:
There should be 3 or 4 sets of numbers. Give me the list exactly as it appears like the example. The name and the number. If it doesn't come up like this let me know.

Hey Lovexxxx....Go to your command prompt. Start>run>type cmd in the box and click ok. Once there type "ipconfig" without the quotes and tell me what it says for the numbers please.
Hi lovexx..... - is this the first time you've tried to hook up your latop to the network? Is the router protected by a WPA or WEP key?
