You need to remove the exterior washer case to access the internal components on these model washers. The following link explains step-by-step how to access and/or replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

The lid switch on this particular model is located under the top washer casing along the LEFT lid hinge. The lid hinge acts as the actuator. Usually the switch either comes loose, or you may need to bend the hinge rod actuator slightly so that it will toggle the switch when the lid closes.

If the switch is found to be defective, the part number for a replacement is 8318084. You can purchase replacements at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable, offer great service and have competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed have exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need. For reference, type your model number in as "110.27831600" when searching for parts. If your model number does not appear on all the websites I have listed, use the the part number from the Sears website as your search criteria. The model number may not always cross reference, but the part numbers will.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

First unplug unit ..You will need a fairly stiff putty knife, you need to remove the upper console to gain access to the lid switch, push your putty knife straight in towards the back of the unit one at a time under each end cap of the control panel afteryou have popped loose the clips you can flip open the console and you will see the lid switch on the back left hand side .Its just snaps in place..Tip before doing any of this make sure the 2 small screws are completely tight that attach the lid to the left side hinge because this is also the arm that actuates the lid switch .. Writing it out makes it sound way more complicated than it is ..Its really a 5 minute job Good Luck

Kenmore 12502100 won't cmplete rinse cycle

This is a typical symptom of a lid switch problem. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (Part number 3949238).

This is a simple and inexpensive repair if you wish to accomplish this on your own. This total repair will cost you a little more than $40. Let me know if you suspect you have other problems. Sometimes the timer can cause certain segments of the wash cycle not to work as well, but this generally is a bit more expensive, and not as common. The lid switch is a more common problem, because of the repeated use it gets while opening and closing the lid. The switch just simply wears out. I hope this helps you.

Lid problem

A common easy fix for this problem is making sure the screws on the hinges (right and left side of the lid) are tight. Loose screws will cause it not to properly srike the lid switch and the unit wont run since it thinks the lid is open. If they are tight, you will probably need to replace the lid switch itself.
