I just purchased a Toshiba model# D-VR610KU VCR/DVD Recorder and trying to connect this thing has proven to be over my head.
It doesn't come with a tuner and according to the manual you can use your satellite box as a tuner, and I have a dish network box, so I swear I connected it exactly as shown in the manual and the only thing I can get a signal on is the satellite tv -- there's no picture or sound for the DVD/VCR. I even tried omiting hooking it to the satellite at all and it's not giving me a picture or sound. My VCR that I'm replacing with this thing had a tuner and I was able to connect the satellite to it just fine. I also have a beastly entertainment center that makes it near impossible to get behind and see the connections on the TV.
I don't know if this is a question that is able to be answered over the internet but I just thought I'd run it past anyone that's willing to listen. Does anyone make housecalls? Hah, hah.
I was able to connect to my cable box. I used RCA (yellow, red, white) cabling. I connected the Video Out on the cable box to the Video In on the DVD/VC (to the DVD VCR cabling section). I then from same section used the Video Out using RCA Cabling to the the Video In connectors on my Phillips LCD TV. That left only to connect the TV to the cable box using regular TV coax cable. Everything works, although I am going nuts trying to dub from VCR to DVD-R or +R discs.

I have the Toshiiba D-VR610K7 DVD/VCR Recurdor. When I use the S-Video connection it does not show up as a input dievice. Help
I have the same system, Toshiba D-VR610KU but a Samsung Plasma TV. I Have connected with the RCA jacks. With the recorder off I receive the picture and sound from the dish receiver but when I turn on the recorder first I get the Toshiba wecome screen and then it goes blank and shows DV/No Device.

I have run into this problem also. I bought the toshiba and when it arrived I started hooking up. Low and behold there is no place to hoop the cable up. I read thru the book and it says I need an external tuner. Can't seem to find out what that is. Radio shack guy said he had just the thing. Turns out he sold me an RF Modulator. Not what I need. I even took the book with me but he sounded so sure that I just bought it and realized when I got home that it wasn't what I needed. Anyway, can anybody give me pointers on how and where to get this external tuner. I'm not doing well. at it
I too just purchased a "like new" Toshiba model# D-VR610KU VCR/DVD Recorder Combo & discovered I need an external tuner. I do not have one. The seller "Tool Guru" on Amozon.com won't take this machine back--but did tell me I needed a cable box or satellite link from the cable company & that box or sat.link is used as an external tuner.

Have the same combo. The Dvd player works, but the VCR doesn't. There is a coaxial connection on the back of the combo and 1 on my cable box, but a standard coaxial cable doesn't work. Is this my problem?
My vcr doesn't work. I think the problem may be with the coaxial cable running from the recorder to the cable box. The cable I have doesn't fit. Do I need a special digital cable? I have digital cable box..
I can't get the vcr to work. It might be the coaxial cable as it doesn't fit going from the combo to the digital cable box. Is there such a thing as a digital coaxial cable? thanks

I think I am onto something....there is an RCA adaptor that you can screw into your coaxial cable that will make the connection to your Toshiba.
As I stated in my other comments, I don't know WHY Toshiba didn't just supply a coaxial connection on this DVD recorder/VCR.....the coaxial connection, that little pin that fits into the input on most VCRs (mostly known as 'ANT' short for 'antenna') has been abandoned with this unit and most new units.
I guess it was just too easy. You'd plug that little pin into your TV and you'd get cable. Duh.
You can get this adaptor at Radio Shack, hopefully. It screws into your coaxial cable and has the male adaptor that slips into the female input of your 'coaxial' input of your Toshiba.
