The best way to go about the task of adjusting the pressure switch is to remove the cover to switch and note the brand/model number. Sometimes instruction are under cover of switch. With switch information, look for mfg. instructions. You will most likely see one or two springs with lock nuts. Do not turn them yet. Most pressure switches are sold with factory adjustment and are sold in pressure ranges. For two stage compressors as yours, the pressure is usually factory set at much higher (150-175) pressures than single stage which is usually about 120 -125. If you change the pressure setting it will also change the differential cut on pressure. The factory will actually use different springs to achieve desired pressures and are color coded. There are too many different brands of switches to recommend how to change pressure setting. You may discover that you can only change the pressure just a small amount (+or -15-20psi ). If you find the information about your switch, make sure that you count the turns exactly so that you can return to factory settings if things go wrong. You can extend the life of the comperssor by lowering the pressure as more amperage /heat is produced to achieve higher pressures. Good luck

Why does compressor push oil through air filter when it shuts down ?

Minimum pressure check valve is bad. when unit shuts down air pressure goes back thru compressor and pushes oil out the air filter.

Wont shut off

Hi ethang...
Try to adjust the pressure shut off switch...sometimes they can also get a hole in the diaphram and leak enough air to cause a problem, if you cannot adjust your pressure switch to shut off then you will need to replace your pressure shut off switch it is defective.

Ingersoll Rand SSR EP60 60hp Compressor w/ Intellisys 39817655 controller. Need to reset target pressure. What is the secret button sequence to access programming mode on this controller? I am aware of...

OK, Compressor should be shut down and showing (ready to start) in display. Press load/unload button once then press hidden right button within 3 seconds. This will let you access the set point program. It will include language, temperature and pressure, rated pressure, etc. Make sure you look at the data tag affixed to the unit and see what the rated pressure is for your unit. You can endanger yourself and equipment by over pressurizing the components of the compressor.

Yeah if no visible leaks your compressor rings are worn an will need to be rebuilt. Check around for rebuild kit and maint cost. May be just as cheak to buy another one, you can get deals on ebay and craig's list. Good luck..Google the model# you may find parts..

Ingersoll rand compressor type 30 is not unloading. Auxillary valve seems to be dirty with oil and at 150 psi the compressor is not unloading.

It sounds like the pressure switch is bad or out of adjustment. Typically the pressure switch is set at 175psi on a 2340. If the auxillary valve you are speaking of is on the pressure switch and is constantly blowing air from it you have a bad receiver tank check valve. Also if you are getting a lot of oil out the valve at the pressure switch you may have some oil control rings bad.

I have an ingersoll-rand upright compressor model 2545k10-p, 10 hp, 120 gal, 175psi compressor, and the electric motor will run for about 15-20 seconds and then automatically shut off, and be really hot....

Does the motor rotate the compressor or just set there and hum? How old is this unit? Overload heaters may be to small or unit may be single phaseing. Is there air pressure in the tank when this happens.

I have an IR Air Compressor #SS3 E. It want stop running/building up pressure. I am sure its the pressure relief valve, but there are 2. One at the presure regulator and the other at the pump and motor.How...

if it is lifting both valves I would say that the pressure switch (regulator as you call it) is defective, if you try to shut it off using the manual switch and it keeps running, I would say that the switch is welded shut. if it does not shut off by 125 psi then it is faulty. The pressure switch is what controls the motor in response to pressure in the tank.
